Category: Trips

Well, SIGH. My five-week-long trip thing is now at an end. It's upsetting, since it'll be months before I see my girlfriend in person again and talking online just can't compare... sigh!

Oh well. At least this, uh, 'gives me the opportunity' to work on more, uh, work. Yes. I meant to have MARDEK 3 done ages ago, and it's really irritating me that it's still very much In Progress. Ugh. I know how disappointing it is because I want it finished as much as any of you do, if not more since I'll get money and feedback when it IS released, but the unexpected time of the trip has thrown me completely off and I'll have to get used to working on games again now (for those of you that don't know, I didn't really plan to go away at around this time when I announced any release dates, like the February one; we actually intended the trip to start *next week* or something instead, but the only availability was for the last five weeks)...

Like when I went away last time, I spent a lot of time *thinking* about games even if I did little or nothing on them as such. So here's my opportunity to put those thoughts into words, I suppose. Let's see what I say and then probably never actually do! Hooray!

First things first: I obviously need to finish MARDEK 3, and soon. It's getting painful how close it is, yet seemingly so far away; there's a lot of work to do still, mainly fixing and tweaking stuff reported by Beta Testers (that reminds me; I've neglected to check the Beta Tester Feedback in the last five weeks and surely more problems have built up; I'll finish the others before adding more to the list).
Before, I was just doing all the stuff on the To Do List 'whenever I felt like it' and just procrastinating a lot because my work wasn't structured. Timetabley things seem to have had success for me in the past, so I'll start by organising my tasks in a sensible way and trying to keep to a schedule. If I do that, I'll be able to give a vague prediction of when I might be done. Let's hope it's by the end of the month. But it should be, since I've not worked on games for a while so it'll be all fresh and exciting and stuff. I hope!

There's also a project I may end up working on with my girlfriend that we talked about when together... I don't know what'll come of it though and I've described things in detail before only to never deliver them, so it's best to be silent about it for now; I'll say more about it if it seems like it's getting off the ground.
If you like Pokemon, though, you may like it! (And no, it's nothing to do with Beast Signer... Though in some ways I suppose it's similar.)

I suppose I should also get Raider out of the way, at long last. Hopefully I can rush through that, but I bet I don't!!1 (Says I, optimistically...)

Then there's that Figimon thing, and, uh... Actually, there's not really much different, come to think of it, from my plans before, which are written in some other news article somewhere, so, uh, I'll leave this for now. Typing is difficult anyway since I've not done it in a while and my technique has always been improper anyway (I mainly use two fingers)...

I've been neglecting maintenance of the site in my absence. I really should have made moderators, I suppose.
I'll need to catch up...

So yes. Hopefully I can get into a good working state of mind very soon and then get back on track and actually FINISH something for once! Hopefully!

Oh! EDIT! I just remembered something I meant to mention! Concerning Raider, which you all know and love like your dear sweetheart that you'd like an endless night of passion with. You know.

I tried to make some levels for that while I was away, but I got the impression that people playing them would think that they're too difficult or something... which is sort of frustrating, because it's like I just CAN'T make levels that are 'easy enough'...
So, I ended up wondering if the people who'd say such things would do any better if they tried themselves... And it gave me the idea to actually see if they WOULD.
It'd be possible for me to make a Raider Level Editor, of sorts, so I might do that... I might even make it a project in itself, then I'd use the best levels in the final game. It'd be good practice for FHO, since I could have it all run on the site where you'd upload things to the site to be played and rated by others, etc, rather than just using a simplistic thing which generates some 'level code' like other Flash games with Editors... Hmm. It might be interesting. Not too profitable though, I bet.
So maybe I'll do that when MARDEK's done.

"[...] that I'd like to spend and endless night of passion with. You know." Are you saying that you want to "do it" with Firequill, and then again with your game, Raider...? How strange...

Sorry about that. I was supposed to post it somewhere else,
and because of a confusion of keyboard shortcuts, it ended here...
Anyway, it's a brazilian music. A beautiful one, actually.

Se Eu quiser Falar Com Deus

Se eu quiser falar com Deus
Tenho que ficar a sós
Tenho que apagar a luz
Tenho que calar a voz
Tenho que encontrar a paz
Tenho que folgar os nós
Dos sapatos, da gravata
Dos desejos, dos anseios
Tenho que esquecer a data
Tenho que perder a conta
Tenho que ter mãos vazias
Ter a alma e o corpo nus

Se eu quiser falar com Deus
Tenho que aceitar a dor
Tenho que comer o pão
Tue o diabo amassou
Tenho que virar um cão
Tenho que lamber o chão
Dos palácios, dos castelos
Suntuosos do meu sonho
Tenho que me ver tristohno
Tenho que me achar medonho
E apesar de um mal tamanho
Alegrar meu coração

Se eu quiser falar com Deus
Tenho que me aventurar
Tenho que subir aos céus
Sem cordas pra segurar
Tenho que dizer adeus
Dar as costas, caminhar
Decidido, pela estrada
Que ao findar, vai dar em nada
Nada, nada, nada, nada
Nada, nada, nada, nada
Nada, nada, nada, nada
Do que eu pensava encontrar

Here are my predictions: Mardek 3 will be finished sometime in June. The final episode of Raider will probably not come out until November at the earliest.

The raider level editor sounds like a good idea. The one problem is that people generally don't know how to make a balanced level. Doing so requires a LOT of practice and know-how. The fact that you're able to make levels that are only slightly too hard, AND playable without being absurdly frustrating is a skill in and of itself. Most people here won't be able to make levels that would appeal even to themselves, so while the concept is good, I think that the level editor would have to be something hat people here had to earn in some way first. Like to prove that they actually COULD make a good level before just going ahead and making an impassible pixilated deathtrap for Arkus Zei that would offend you and all of your more sensible characters. And maybe even Gruen, who isn't even a character in the new Raider games as of current knowledge.

Well, now, I don't agree. I mean, sure, there's a place for experimentation, but there is also for great game making. I've been doing a lot of SMW levels in my hacks. The only thing I'm afraid for THIS level editor is for it to lack content. A good editor should have lots of features. In SMW hacking, you can choose from hundreds of tile-set related (The biggest limit IMO) and standard enemies. You can choose also hundreds more kind of blocks, including vines, ? blocks, Spin blocks, Doors, Brown blocks, Grey blocks, Black piranas... There were also subtle puzzle related contents, such as the P-switch (Blue and Silver), and every power-ups too. There was also gimmicks you could add, like the screen scrolling automatically to the right, or big smashers coming from up the screen.
If you were really good at coding, you could also implement NEW enemies and NEW graphics! But again, you could only use a certain amount of things at the same time. And due to data limitation, you had to be aware that you had to place things in a specific way so that sprites didn't disappear!

THAT is a full level editor. THE BEST ONE I KNOW OF. Now, I definitely don't expect Pseudo to best this, seeing as it would take him a while (And I know what I'm talking about, I've been working on something similar too), but just to say that good level editors need to have a lot of contents.

Yay! Mardek 3 is almost done! Kind of! Maybe! I hope the game is as good as I imagined. Keep up the good work. :)

Concerning motivation, I've another theory. It might, and I say MIGHT, come from a lack of social interaction from your side. I might be right, and I might be wrong. But think this: You've just spent a while with your girlfriend, and now you're expecting something "exciting and fresh".
In other words, you can try spending more time with your friends/family.

You really type by the hunt-and-peck method? Or is there some other reason for you only using two fingers? This is alarming indeed!

I type without looking at my hands and everything, it's just that since I've never been properly taught and have just sort of picked it up myself, I end up using mainly two or three fingers; my index and middle fingers on the left hand, and my index finger on the right. It's far from efficient and I'd wish to improve it, but it's something rather natural to me at this point and I imagine it'd take a lot of effort to change, and it probably doesn't matter too much anyway since I can type fast enough...

I know what you mean. If you were to try to reteach yourself how to type, you might want to change up your keyboard-- Either not use a QWERTY or use a "broken" ergonomic keyboard. That way, your current muscle memory and habits wouldn't interfere with the learning process.

...But I can't imagine coding while trying to type in such a manner. I suppose that if you have, in fact, practiced something until it feels natural that it would make it a thoughtless process, but still-- My brain goes too fast for me to keep up with it when I'm writing, but I type fast enough to keep up with myself. If I couldn't, then I would hate programming. lol, Kudos, I tip my hat to your devotion to the trade, Pseudo.

I know how you feel. I, too, type with only one or two fingers at a time. I'm quite slow, but thanks to this site, which I thank you for creating, has given me the experience to type faster, and with fewer mistakes. I'm now typing much faster, but I still only type with a total of four fingers... at least I'm not as bad as I used to be.

I really learned how to type on the chat, which is excellent practice, and if you type slow, then so be it, you don't need to type fast. I'd concentrate on accuracy instead of speed, since speed doesn't count for anything if no one can understand what you typed! o_O
