Pseudolonewolf`s Avatar MARDEK 3 Known Bugs Sat 10th Jul 2010 2:18am

Category: MARDEK

MARDEK 3 seems to be doing rather well; I'm glad people are enjoying it. There've been several bugs reported that I've been spending the last few days fixing, so I don't think there are any major ones left anymore... that I can do anything about.

It seems that various aspects of software beyond my control have been affecting some people, and I've had to respond with the same solutions many times. It'd be nice, I thought, to just have some place to handily link to instead, so that's why I'm writing this.
If you see anyone reporting any of the 'bugs' addressed here, feel free to link them to this.

Also, if you have any of the problems here and the solution doesn't work, please tell me so.

The main problems seem to be:

  • STICKY KEYS - Keys seem to 'stick', so that if you press an arrow key down, the character keeps moving in that direction even when you release it, etc.

This seems to be a specific problem with the browser Internet Explorer 8. There are two solutions for this.

    1. Get another browser. I personally recommend Google Chrome.

    2. Go the Tools → Internet Options → Security menu and uncheck the 'Protected mode' box. I don't know if this really reduces your security by any significant degree, but it does fix this problem.

  • SAVING DOESN'T WORK - Either you can't save at all or your save games end up missing the next day, or corrupted, with data being 'undefined' or 'from another chapter' when it isn't.

There are screens at the start of the game that I added specifically to prevent this problem, but it seems to be human nature to just skip such things, no matter what kind of warning was given, so many people will experience the problems regardless of their presence... The solution is, of course, to heed them.

There are several different reasons why the saving might not work:

    1. FLASH CANNOT SAVE DATA. If you right-click the game and select Settings from the menu that appears, you can configure Local Storage by clicking on the folder-like icon. From there, you can move a slider to set how much memory Flash can use. If you don't set this high enough (10MB at least, I'd say), then any data that's meant to be saved simply won't be.

    2. YOUR FLASH PLAYER IS OUTDATED. This is very, very important. The screen at the start tells you your version, and if it's outdated, it provides a very clear 'Get Latest' button. Older versions - and I don't mean something like 'v9' instead of 'v10', but something like 'v10.1.0.3' instead of 'v10.1.0.4' or whatever - have bizarre bugs that sometimes occur when it comes to saving, leading to the corrupted 'undefined' data and so on. This is what happened with the horrible saving problems the first chapters experienced a year or two ago, which never happened when the games were released and was fixed when a new Flash Player came out...

    3. YOU MAY HAVE CLEARED YOUR BROWSING HISTORY. Flash data is considered by some things to be equivalent to data-storing cookies and Pages Visited lists, so if you use the browser's history-deleting functions or another program meant to do the same thing, chances are Flash save games will be deleted too. Keep this in mind when deleting your history.

So there you have it. If there are any other commonly-experienced problems that I've missed, please tell me! And try to make other people aware of these solutions, too... just so then I don't have to keep telling them to people myself.

Apologies for bumping. But just notices a small bug (almost too trivial to mention, but I thought it should be added for completeness sake. Any time you have mouse-over text (like 'S to split' or 'weapon') and you press Z to go back a screen the text remains on the cursor.

It's a pretty easy workaround, just go back to the inventory mouse-over again and move to an area with no text, Z again, and the job is a good 'un.

i have found another bug. It seems I can't equip some of the gemstones to anyone in my party, but the other ones work properly, and it sounds like I am putting them in different slots, like when you put a weapon in the shield slot

Is the gemstone you are trying to equip actually several gemstones? That happened to me at first, and I just couldn't figure out how to equip the gemstone. I eventually noticed a little '5' in the corner of my topaz, though. You'll need to split your stack so you're only holding one. If you don't know how to do this, click the item while holding down the 's' key to pick up just one.

In the map for the Lifewood area just west of Woodhearthenge, the dreamcircle appears at the bottom of the map for some reason (but vertically in line with its actual location)...

Hmm, I thought I fixed that a while ago... Maybe I didn't upload an update, or something? I'll look into it again anyway.

Oh, no, it must be me then. Somehow I always keep forgetting to refresh now that it's not a beta.

Okay, just pointing out the "sticky keys" thing seems to happen on Internet Explorer in general because I have IE 6 and it still happens. (I really need a new computer)

I'm not sure if there are any written directions in the game for this, but I can't seem to find it, so here is my question:

How do you switch out characters? I did it earlier before a boss battle when I switched Solaar with Donovan, but that screen just came up because it was supposed to. But I mean if I'm just standing there, and I'm not in a battle or anything, how do I switch back? Is it even possible? Because earlier in the game, I switched Solaar for Sslen'ek, and I'd like to redo that now if it's possible. . .

Oh, and I also wasn't sure if this was the right place to ask the question, but I couldn't think of anyplace else, so I just did it here. I hope that's okay.

Oh! Wow, I'm sorry! I just had a total mind blackout. Well, sorry about that! I figured it out. Wow, I cannot believe I just did that. Sorry again, I'll pay better attention next time. . .

Erm... Elwyen's Astral Harp claims in the description to give 10 MDEF, but this bonus isn't being added to her stats. The attack, spirit and agility boosts are just fine, just the MDEF one isn't there.

In the Encyclopedia, the name of the section you're in is covered by the sponsor's logo - the section name should probably be moved to the left? I think it would look fine right next to the word 'Encyclopedia', like so: 'Encyclopedia - Bestiary', etc.

Thank you for posting the reason for the corrupted file. My file got messed up when I just got Sslen'ck in my party and saved at the Inn. Luckly I have an extra file from Mardek 2 to continue on. I'll be sure to get 100% on the entire Mardek series (1-8), even when it takes me days. Mardek 1 and 2 are great games with a great story and I see no reason for that to change for Mardek 3. Please keep up the good work.

I had Mardek (M) and Sslen'ck (S) with same agility, and both had haste. The turn bar showed that the turn order should have been MSMS, but after both M and S moved, S got another move (the bar moved forward 2 spaces), then M got his second turn (the bar moved BACK 1), and then the next person went (the bar moved forward 2 again). As a result, both character got 2 turns, which is as it should be, but the order of M and S's second turn was reversed. It didn't affect gameplay much, but I thought I should mention it anyway.

Um, I don't really know if this is a glitch or not but when I went back to the sandstone caverns, I found out that if you kill a Happy Johnnie with Elwyn's attack, Dolores dirge, you can get around 400-500 exp per Johnnie when I'm at level 30
