Pseudolonewolf`s Avatar Hooray, Reviews! Sun 21st Nov 2010 9:46pm

Amazingly, I've got the Reviews thing actually working! How odd it is to have been talking about this mere days ago, and now it's actually implemented and working.

Here is how it will all work:

Anyone can write a review if they so desire. You should review Flash games that are more recent, rather than some from ages ago, and they have to be *Flash games*; no reviews of console games or anything like that. If you don't know what a Flash game *is*, then you shouldn't be writing reviews.
Also, while I've got some silly sample reviews up, they aren't what your reviews should look like. Try to be lengthy and 'serious' when writing about games, so then people get a proper impression of what the game's like.

Once you've written a Review, you have to wait for it to be Approved. This will be up to moderators.
Once it's Approved, you'll need to manually Publish it before it becomes publicly viewable; you can do that from the review page.
You can also edit your reviews for the first month after they're created, but not beyond that, since I don't want old reviews to end up changing.

It's up to the moderators to decide what's Approved and what's not, but generally things which are interesting, fair, well-written, and the right sort of length will be okay.

Oh, and you'll need to include images in your reviews, but you can only do this after the review's been approved to prevent abuse.
It would be good then if you have the skills required to take screenshots of Flash games and trim them down to the correct size.

I'm looking forward to seeing some interesting reviews about the latest Flash games!

If you have any further questions, please ask them here.

Oh, and you can access the list of current reviews from the new Games tab at the top (you'll see 'Reviews' in the drop-down box). You'll find a Write Your Own button on that page.

I've finished most of the moderator functions, but now I need to choose some people for the position. It won't be an easy decision at all, and I'll only choose people I trust well. If we haven't talked in the chat before, don't even bother suggesting yourself. And don't brag about your qualifications or whatever either; I don't care, and will judge peoples' worthiness based on what I personally have seen of them rather than how well they can advertise themselves.

So yes, if you are interested in the position of being a moderator and you think you might be someone I already trust somewhat, mention yourself here...!

Hey,
I've not been contributing so much, well, because I'm quite busy. I'm taking maths, further maths, biology, chemistry and physics for A-level, so I'm not able to do much with my life these days. In evidence of this, 'm still trudging my way through the optional parts of mardek 3. It's hard, but amazingly rewarding, stuff. The reason I fealt I needed to say this, it bacause I want a position as a moderator of the reviews. I would feel bad trying to get the position and then hving no explanation to a lack of work. (I would still contribute alot, I have the time, but only just enough.)

So, anyways, this is me, submitting (in a most formal way) my application.
I would like to know though, a few things about the post itself. Would I disapprove some reviews, or just approve the good ones? can I approve my own reviews? how many should we read per week? ect, ect.. I realise that you might still be panning out the finer details, but I'd like to know as much as possible about this before I join in!

thanks, Ewolf.

I always thought that I could try to become a game reviewer. When I read about reviews in here, I thought that this could be a good practice. But well, that little yellow mark next to my nick ruined my plans and wishes. Oh, well, I can't change anything.

Hmm. I suppose it won't hurt anyone if I volunteered, even though, as I have already said, there are a lot of people more suited for the job and probably much better at the it. Nevertheless, should it happen that for some inexplicable reason you can't get enough moderators, I would accept the job. I was a beta-tester once, so that might give you some idea about my performance, though I was a lot more active back then. I haven't been very active lately, and being active is one of the most important qualities of a moderator... If I were a moderator, I might become more active, but... well. Good luck for choosing moderators; I hope that now that you are, after all this time, ready to make moderators, having them will be worth it.

Does the game have to be RECENT? Could I write an article about a flash game made a couple years ago?

Also, why does it have to be Flash specifically? Why not any other programming language? I'm not sure, but I do believe that the game mentioned in this article: [LINK] was made in something other than Flash.

That game was made in flash. A quick way to check is that when you right click, there should be a thing that says "About Adobe Flash Player X". The game was made using the Flixel game engine, but that doesn't mean it's not a flash game...

The games don't *have* to be recent, but what you should be doing is playing a game and then, afterwards, writing about how you thought of it. That is, immediately afterwards, rather than just trying to think of games you've played ages ago just for the sake of writing a review.
Recent games are preferable, though, over games that have already had their moment of interest.

They must be Flash games because this site is about Flash games, and I'd like the reviews to appeal to the audience who plays Flash games on the portals, as well as the developers who made the games. The non-Flash games tend to be part of a different 'scene', so to speak; 'Indie' rather than Flash, and it seems that both attract different groups. There's a lot of overlap at times, but I'd prefer for there not to be any here; at least, not yet.
So yes, the reviews are for 'Flash' rather than 'Indie' games. There are plenty of Flash games out there for reviewing, without having to turn to non-Flash games.

The idea of being a moderator is appealing to me in the sense that that would be validation from you. Because of my own personality, I tend to wish dearly for validation from those I look up to. Because of that if you chose me to be a moderator, then I would be as dedicated as I possibly could be.

Its weird to ask this here since everybody is talking about mods but regarding the reviews I would like to sugest the game "Iji" for someone to do a review about it. Its an old game and its not even a Flash one but it's an excelent plataformer with a great history and I don't have the time nor the experience to do it myself.

No; Flash games only for now. Perhaps at some time in the future, reviews for non-Flash independent games like that will be accepted, but not for the time being. Reviews will have to be for games made in Flash, or else they won't be Approved.
So take note, any who read this; please don't spend time writing a review for a game that wasn't made in Flash!

OK OK no review for Iji but at least play it Pseudo. It's such a good game that of all the non flash games that could have a review in this site Iji is the only one that should have it. Also it could provide a great inspiration for both rpg and plataformer genres, wich are your speciality

The idea of being a moderator is appealing to me, just as it probably is to many other people. The idea of authority and influence, especially on a website with high standards like this one, is tempting. Personally, I'm less excited about the idea of doling out banpoints to trolls and more interested in the idea of passing judgment on reviews. Why? I dunno, I just love editing any piece of writing that crosses my path, and it would be fun to make the reviews be the best they could be - even though mods can't directly edit reviews, they can still make suggestions. I love making suggestions. You should have seen what I did when I had to do peer reviews for my writing class. It was great.

I guess I won't bother saying anything more, since it apparently won't help my case. How mean it is to disregard any artfully crafted advertisements people may have made for themselves. And just when I've finished learning how to advertise myself properly, too. You've deprived me of potential practice. Tsk.

Ho hum, moderators are...fun? Anyway, considering I haven't been here all that long (when compared to other members), plus the fact that I've only conversed with you once or twice, plus the tedious little detail of my age...seems like I'm not exactly a perfect mod. However, in the event that I stay longer, post more often, and uh, hold some more philosophical conversations with you, perhaps then I could be considered. But not now. Just to get the obvious question out of the way.

Anyway, disqualifying myself for the position of moderator wasn't my purpose for writing this. I'm much more interested in the Reviews. I'd like to write some, see? And that shouldn't be a problem. But, in the event that my reviews get approved, I...have no idea how to upload any kind of picture or anything. It's why I still have my nice looking, generic fig as my avatar, instead of some unique photo or something like that. It's why I'm hesitant to write anything knowing that I'll have to provide some screenshots, and knowing that I don't know how to do that. So it's a dilemma for me. I believe I could write relatively good reviews, but I know that I can't upload any pictures at this time, lacking the knowledge and experience to do so. Is there any chance you might make a tutorial or somesuch to explain it to me and other technologically deficient members? I might, might, be able to figure it out by myself...but no guarantees.

Anyways, that's my input. Congrats on coming up with the Review function and all that, good luck on picking suitable Moderators to assist you in the tasks ahead.

I would like to nominate myself! Ugh, the process of nominating yourself seems really...narcissistic to me...
