You can view ratings publicly now. Just click on the number of ratings and it'll make a window thing appear.

HOPEFULLY this won't cause loads of 'drama', and that you can all be civil about it.
Don't seek vengeance on those who've rated you low, and don't give positive ratings to those who've rated you high *just because* of that, either.

So yes. Now have fun and so on.

My STUPID IE 8.0 doesn't seem to like the new feature. Whenever I click on the number of ratings, I just jump to the top of the page. Also, if someone wouls care to explain: which cache was that again?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new data. Hrm indeed that I can't get to it at the moment.

I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but when the window appears, instead of being able to click on users' names to go to their page (though you can right click->open the page), the rating window just closes.

Unfortunately, this system does not work on my browser, so now it is completely unfair that I can't see anyone's ratings but they can see mine. But I think that some things should be kept private, and ratings are one of them. Although, if someone does not wish for their ratings to be viewed, the reason behind that ratings is probably not reliable.

There's some (rather minor) problems I used experience but have ceased since I got a new laptop. When I edit my stats sometimes what I put in gets the end cut off if I make it too long. If anyone else experiences this problem they should post about it. Of course it could just be an old problem which has been fixed and if so you should ignore this post. However I really don't feel I should be rated down for talking about a problem that's already been fixed as it might not have been. Also thanks to the new rating system I'll know who it was, it was a good idea by the way. Thanks pseudolonewolf.

Sorry for posting twice, but I was just in chat and we had a very good idea. A lot of times people rate others low and forget about t, even when their opinions have changed about them. Is it possible that you could make a feature that allows you to see all the ratings you have given? It would help a lot of people who used to rate people low or high when they did not deserve it. You don't have to do this, of course, I'm just giving a suggestion.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

That is something that I have considered before, but I don't know how practical it would be. The code would be slow, for one thing; generating the page which showed you the ratings you'd given might cause too much load on the server (though I can't be sure).
It might also be impractical, though, since people like me have given so *many* ratings that they couldn't really be shown on a single page or anything.

Perhaps something I'll look into, if I have the time, is just showing the ratings you've given to people rather than to posts. That would be much quicker and easier to read through.
Of course, I would make it public if I did it at all... so you'd be able to look at anyone's page and see who they'd rated.

Ah, okay, I see. Thanks for looking into it. I guess I can also see the downsides to such a thing now, because people scared of receiving bad ratings out of vengeance might change all of their negative ratings to higher ratings, which wouldn't be a good thing.

From a strictly analytical point of view, public ratings are interesting and informative. For the past few minutes, I looked over the posts and comments I've made and how people rated them (paying special attention to people who are well respected on this site) and noticed patterns in how people rate my comments. What shocked me were the obvious (made obvious by publicizing the ratings) patterns that some people gave ratings on. For example, a certain (well-respected, but I'm not giving a name) user gave me 0s and -1s on standard comments where most gave 0s and +1s, and gave me +1s on some short, question-answering posts that usually got 0s overall. Second, it is probably possible to draw a hypothesis from the temperaments of users given the ratings they give you ( would generally give lower ratings, s would generally give higher ratings, s would give high ratings to things that they agree with and low to those then would not agree with, and s would give out few ratings altogether). Some people would give high ratings to joke posts provided that they were actually funny, and some would still give low ratings for the lack of seriousness. Looking at the people who give red ratings, most reds I've seen were either given by either well-respected people and trolls, while greens were usually given by average-rated users and trolls (some trolls tried to balance out the numerous reds they give with greens). If you find something interesting in the ratings you've been given, please share it. PWEEZE?

Secondly, this is more directed towards the site administration (read: Pseudo), but are the admins (read again: Pseudo) going to create more polls on this site when it comes to changing site policy? I liked that Pseudo proposed a poll to the community before making the decision to publicize ratings and I would like to see that method enacted again. Or maybe Pseudo was already resolute in that decision and opened that poll as a warning to the community that ratings WERE going to be publicized??? o_O? Either way, I liked the poll before the community and maybe more possible site changes could be conducted in that fashion. Maybe things from the 'Suggestions' forum could be read by Pseudo and then put to poll for the community to give input? (DISCLAIMER: I'm not commanding Pseudo or trying to advise him, I'm just stating a system that I would think as cool. Please do not hunt me down and make me watch every one of my comments get -3'd and then my account banned and my wife and children killed because I tried to give advice). DISCLAIMER 2: That was supposed to be humor, not arrogance expressed in the above sentence.

Hi Pseudolonewolf, I noticed that the window does not pop up on Firefox 3.6.13. I tried it on Safari 533.19.4, and it worked just fine. Just wanted to let you know.

I first thought that this would negatively effect the site, but now I've changed my mind. I see the two people who have down-rated me, and I feel better because I know it's not my fault (they were both trolls). I think that this is a positive addition to the site.

That's strange... The windows is popping up for me, and I am using Firefox 3.6.13. Have you tried clearing your cache?

So. It's done. The veil has been lifted, the darkness has been overcome, the shield of anonymity has been broken. I'm certain some members will discover revelations both good and bad, while others may simply confirm their suspicions. Regardless, I can only hope that members do not become reactionary as they discover what people really "think" of them. While it may be first impulse to "repay" one's benefactors and adversaries in kind, that may not be the wisest course of action. If doing so is not arrogant, I'd encourage others to discuss with their raters why they received them. Learn from the past. Keep your cursor away from either orb extreme as you cope with new knowledge. Now is not the time to be hasty--because your mistakes will be broadcast to the entire community. If this is going to work, members are going to have to swallow any instinctive vengeance and work together to improve as a community. This is Fig Hunter--we can do it. It may take time, but I'm confident that the users of this site will be able to change and adapt to this new feature, and hopefully become more responsible and empathetic than ever before.

If this doesn't play out nicely... I suppose... Pseudo giveth, and he taketh away. That's all that needs to be said about that.

So, yes, rate responsibly, as Rating Orb A β Pseudolonewolf has implored us. I'll try and follow his advice as well--you'll all know if I fail.

Hmm. I can't seem to get mine to work. Just click on the number of ratings... mm. Tried that on several pages. It's not working, but it might be due to me using IE 8. Anybody else experiencing this problem.

I've noticed that sometimes on my Other 0, I mean, Opera 11.00, it doesn't show, there's only gradient, without ratings table. However, those are single cases and after returning back to the site and pressing number again it shows properly.

By the way, good thing that ratings are finally public! Now we're not on level "I know which posts need improvement" anymore, now it's rather "I know who to ask how to improve my posts and who possibly would be trolling". So yes, I think it's a progress if used wisely. Probably most of FH active users are mature enough to use it wisely. We will see soon if this works out. ^^

If this happens to anyone, you may need to clear your cache; one of the script files seems to be loading an old version from the cache when the page is refreshed.
Refreshing many times might do it, though.
But hopefully it's *not* an IE problem... Ugh, I hate IE. Such a pain, so many problems with it.

Sunflower: My ratings box doesn't even pop up. When I go to my userpage and hit the rating box, I go right back to my ratings page.

Pseudolonewolf: I just cleared my cache and it still isn't working, so I'm guessing it's either IE 8 or my computer. I really like the rating idea though, I'll aske someone else if I want to know my ratings for now I guess.

Thank's for your guys' help.
