Pseudolonewolf`s Avatar Clarence`s Big Chance Released! Wed 23rd Feb 2011 10:29pm

Category: Games (FH)

Finally! And what timing... I had just written another important news post.

Here's the game on Kongregate, where it'll stay exclusively for the next week: [LINK]

I'd love to know what you think of it in comments here, if you're willing to tell me!!1

And because the last news post was indeed important, I'll link to it here: [LINK]
I'd like to know what you think of that, too.
I wanted to separate comments for CBC and that though, hence the different news posts instead of just editing that one.

Anyway, enjoy!11

(Oh, also, I'll upload an Album for CBC's music soon; probably tomorrow. I don't know if anyone will want it, but I'll upload it anyway.)

I've just got round to playing CBC on Kongregate. The music is not only more harmonious than what I'm used to from your previous games, but it's also happy and light and not melancholic at all, and it's really pleasant!
I don't understand how anyone can have a problem with squashing dogs, cats, mothers, etc. The whole thing is absurd, even graphically - how do three hysterical saucepan-throwing females running simultaneously this way and that relate to a mother, even remotely? Cats are cute though.
I would agree that gameplay is too non-linear. In levels 2 and 4, I suddenly found myself at the exit, and simply didn't feel like going back to find the areas I hadn't visited because of the vastness of the place. Also, I had the same feeling someone mentioned earlier: when I got out of the house, I was like "OMG, I thought I had finished the game, and this was only level 1???" (Though the room with the pink doors made me suspicious...) And in level 3, though I finally completed it to 100%, it was pretty annoying to go through the Internet, including history (and wonder about some areas that contained nothing) only to find the memos about trolls and whores later and have to go back and do the same areas again. Similarly, in the last level, I did that crazy jumping sequence through the disappearing blocks and reached the shop at the top, only to realise I should have known which of the three possible personalities my date is, which I only found out later...
I'm not sure whether the game is also too LONG. On the one hand it is far longer than necessary to appeal to the casual lunch break kind of player. It is also long enough for me to not want to go back and explore on first playthrough (and I'm not sure I'll set aside time for any more playthroughs), but if it required less concentration and planning to do every area by (for example) keys having a colour and being accessible only in a sequential order, with the last leading to the level's exit point, I'd probably not mind the length alone. (If some optional items were conspicuously placed along the way in hard-to-reach places, the player could still have the option of doing a speed run or going completionist.) It would also help if you'd face different kinds of problems as you progress through the game - level 1 is pretty good at this with just jumping first, then adding in a new element step by step (water, ice, enemies that throw/shoot stuff, ladders, spikes, etc) but from level 2 onwards, the addition of new gameplay elements slows down - I can only recall driving around, blocks that switch on/off, and disappearing blocks. Level 3 with memos and multiple tasks to complete adds some spice again, but level 4 is kind of taking a step back towards level 2. I suppose this might contribute to the feeling that it's too long for some people.
I didn't encounter any glitches, but I did have a problem which is down to level design (I think): in level 2, if you drive too slowly, it's possible to fall too far in front of a breakable wall and never get back up to it again. (This can also happen in level 3, but there you can solve the problem by getting a new car. In level 2 though, if you do get a new one, you have to go through a few doors to get to it, and when you reach the place, it's not there anymore.)

Well, that's all from me...

I'm agreeing with the person who said it was too non-linear. And the gameplay didn't really have anything new to offer. Run around, jump on enemy, collect item. Couldn't play for more than half an hour before losing interest entirely. Could just be that I don't really like platformers. Either way, keep up the good work, friend.

Congratulations on finishing another great game.
I don't have much to say except that it's fun, wacky, and a complete time waster.
Right now I'm trying to finish my homework at 12:30 AM... T-T
Anyway, I like this better than Raider, as far as your platformers go.
Keep up the good work and let's hope you finish AF:R as fast as you finished CBC.

Love the game, the humor is so....humorous and other than seeing a cat fall through the floor of Clarence's attic once i couldn't find any problems at all. It is very fun and the controls are easy to learn and use. Keep up the good work.

Clarence's Big Chance far exceeds my expectations! From the amount of time you worked on it, it is much larger that I first assumed. After I finished the house, I was shocked to see that that was just level one considering it took me around 30 minutes to complete. Well done! Not to sound to cheesy or anything, but don't let those who attack you merely because this isn't MARDEK 4. Keep up the great work!

Just finished the game and got all 19 achievements, It's very fun and amusing and besides the fact I missed the roof top at Clarence's work (whatever it is he does) and spend about an hour trying to figure out where the last task and scorpion are I still LOVED it. It's been quite a while since I've played a Platformer game and I'd love to see another one, since this one was worth the wait, short or not. Good job Pseudo

It's a really good game, I finished it at 100% and took me about 2 hours, a fair gameplay time, for me at least. It's really well thought, very complete, and the date system is very funny.
It's not like your other games, it feels a lot free in a way that you can really do whatever you want, of course depending on the result that you want to have in the date.
The art it's very well made, and the music I didn't really listened it, because I prefer to listen my own music, sorry for that, I know how it feels, I'm a musician too, anyway, I'm going to listen it some of this days, just for fun.
I really enjoyed the game, it helps to distract you for a while, you could do more of this of this games in the future, when you get sick of the complexes games again. Anyway, congratulations on the release of the game.

I think the game was too long and nonlinear! :D I've noticed that all your 'short' projects seem to get stretched out so much. :P
That's just my opinion, of course. You see, I preferred SMB1 to SMB3, and Raider: Ep1 (old) to Ep3. :P
Anyway, I haven't quite finished it yet (I'm lost in the computer level, somewhere..), but I really appreciate your little tidbits of humor thrown all around. :D (I left the house without clothes on, at first!) Those aside, it's a pretty well-constructed game with some depth to it, and it was almost worth the 45 minutes that would've been better allocated towards writing a very important paper I have to finish preferably tonight. :P In hindsight, I should have waited until the weekend to play. However, that is not your fault. :D Excellent game, though I, personally, prefer something considerably shorter and simpler.
