Pseudolonewolf`s Avatar Virtual Currency Systems Wed 21st Sep 2011 2:12pm

Category: Business

I'm going to add the 'Fig Coins' system to the new version of the site, which I've talked about in the past.

These virtual currency systems are not uncommon on sites not unlike my own, so hopefully it won't be too hard for visitors to come to terms with.

Anyway, obviously it would not be a good idea to code the payment handling stuff myself. There are various third-party systems that can be used for this purpose, but apparently there are quite a few of them and I have no idea which one to choose.

So basically, if you know anything about which virtual currency platform things might be appropriate for what I want, then I'd appreciate your input since my own research isn't going very well so far.

I've found sites like this one: [LINK]
It seems to *list* a bunch of virtual currency platforms, but I can't really see where it recommends any above the others...

So yes, I'm going to continue my own research, of course, but asking people here is a part of it, I suppose.

Honest opinion: spend less time on the site, more time on awesome games.

Addendum: I understand the coins and producing more income for yourself, but in general, less time on the site, more time on the content. Your games are downright amazing, the site is just a vehicle to access them, and a secondary one at that. More people are exposed to your games via Kongregate than your own site, and their site is already quite robust and functional, and, best of all, requires no effort from you to maintain. Plus, they pay for your games (though I personally have no idea how much), enabling you to spend even more time on games, and less time raising funds on your own.

TL;DR - (Good games > Fighunter.com) & (Kongregate > Fighunter.com)

My site is like my home online, and the main reason that I wish to renovate it is the same as why people would want to redecorate their house. Players of my games may visit here only fleetingly, but I am here almost constantly, and if I am unsatisfied with the place, it is a drain on my mood.
I am also not a machine and can't just decide to work on games even more... I already feel that I do work on them as much as I am able, and a break from them to work on something else is always a pleasant relief for me.
Also, my Anxiety Disorder makes it difficult for me to contact sponsors to get money for my games, which is the whole reason I'd prefer to sell them myself. That way I don't have to interact with middlemen on a social level, or to impress them enough to get a good offer.

(Also, I wonder what sites you are used to where four sentences would be considered too long to read for some or most people...)

You could try Paypal. It might be best to go with a system that is tried and true. It's very easy and user-friendly for the site users and they get enough business that they know how to do stuff right. I'm not sure on the specific benefits as opposed to other such companies, but Paypal comes up a lot online and I just thought I'd throw the recommendation out there.

PayPal is a payment method, not a payment platform. There's a difference; a payment platform will accept many payment methods, like PayPal or credit cards, and it would handle the input professionally and securely so all I would need to worry about would be specifying a price to pay and, presumably, a script to run if the payment is successful.

I'm not waiting good things about that, turnin this site into something that you may need to BUY to do simple things like play A GAME wich you need to pay 100USD since, i hate sites who are good and drastocally change to a smeg that you need to buy EVERYTHING just like a simple comment or chat, stil don't want chats benneficts like new colors or childish sparkles... That's my opinion that MAYBE is real, but i got dissapointed when Pseudo sayed "like improving your profile in some way or another", you mean i need to buy to get a nice look profile? i am thinking this site will be smeggy...

"I need to PAY to have a nice-looking car/house? But why can't I just have all the paint and furniture and stuff for free?! I don't WANT to pay! I hate this!"

I'd like to get food and a place to live for free, but I cannot, which is the only reason I would ever ask other people to give me their money.

I guess in that way your right, but perhaps you didn't talk about games i agree you need food and home, but i'm thinking that FigCoins will be need to buy such a simple thing as change elements and i already said that i don't wan't everything had to be buyed, and if you're going to sell all your games, i don't think that you are going to win much things, just be sure to get a payment platform wich accept most of countries, otherwise almost all of another countries people would leave, that's what i am guessing;

Sorry about the bad grammar on my part on last post but i was just wondering as the economy drags down to another great depression in some areas like the United States or is getting up like in China and some places in Germany people will start to penny pinch and they wont want to start to buy the currency. When i worked for IJJI {its not abbreviated its what there called} they have it so you can earn most items by playing the game or short cutting it with experience upgrade or buy a free item by cutting time to get it. Another way was amounts of time and one of those things was like a lottery type system called the capsule shop were u can buy exclusive items with virtual currency and if u lose get in game cash or have timed bonus like extra experience after a fight and get some coupon or something like that but they had a thing for regular players without virtual cash to get great gear just not as good as virtual cash items.

That second Great Depression would be when there is no more oil or when the economy goes haywire, like, saying, you'd have to buy coffee for $50.00, and to get a candy bar you would have to get for $15.00, or something similar.

How will you be able to earn these coins. Are they like Campus Credits on gamescampus.com, which you have to buy with real money, or are they earnable by doing certain things on this site?

It's been 2 years since i last posted a comment suggesting about how things should go. I'm glad it was the virtual system. Hopefully it's not going to require it to allow everything, as i have fun with all the free things, just so long as it's not completely blocked away by needs of payment. I've played tons of games with the partial areas of payment to progress further, some of them being required to make it easier, most allows you to fly through the game without em. With having an option to pay for something as you find areas to pay for, i'd imagine it should work out.

For example, the Fig Hunter Online would be a big start on this, and if i remember correctly on my comment, i had suggested payments to go beyond a default palette. For example, players could pick 1 default town, 1 default dungeon, and i guess if possible, another one for journey purposes to make a game lengthy, with other palettes buyable using the virtual currency, but after re-reading, i noticed i was just a default palette primarily of a forest, a town, and a dungeon, aswell as trees. With all the potential artists, perhaps people can even create artwork and perhaps have some form of income off of people buying it to play, or perhaps they could just do it for free. Theres a lot of people who make art for free, but mostly they only ask for credit. Personally, i'd love to see what people would work on to make quite a unique version of their own game once FHO is released, just as much as i want to work on my own levels. The way i've seen in the explanation of FHO having an ability to create maps, levels, and all that, reminds me of my many times i tried to make games off of any of the RPG Maker series (95, 2000, 2003, and XP), and that is pretty great.

However, as i feel, all FHO have ways of having people work together, aswell as a place for all players to talk to eachother. Perhaps a Hub map for players to wander about with what they find and do? And perhaps for sake of sanity, at least have some form where levels/worlds/however it will be called, shouldn't have overpowered items at the start where people can just make it, run it, and then run through all other maps from other players. Maybe items from other players can be locked on use on other players maps and games? Or maybe items have a certain amount of points on creation with level requirements increasing those points? I'm sure a consensus, or however the right word for this situation, would come around so we can know how that would go.

And i hope that gift cards will work on this type of payment service. The way paypal goes, is slightly annoying when you have to enter information for even Gift Cards.

As for other games, i'm not certain enough on what to suggest. Maybe some bonus stuff? Perhaps this virtual money could also be used to buy game soundtracks? I know thats already possible, but with it being tagged to an account, then should you lose it, you can get a digital copy of it so you won't be empty-handed. I'm sure something will be brought up eventually for other games.

Well, i hope these suggestions are okay.

Here is the list of some ecommerce services, most of them are for selling software directly, but maybe they have features that let you implement their payments with on-site currency.

This doesn't just go for you, it goes for everyone asking questions. Try and find out stuff for yourself. I know that you're fairly new here but it was still quite easy to find the right blog page, which is here: [LINK] It explains pretty much all you need to know about the fig coins and any other stuff you don't need to know.
