Pseudolonewolf`s Avatar Raider 2 Release Ideas... Mon 30th Mar 2009 12:11am

Category: Raider

I've temporarily removed Raider 2 from the site, and I'll go onto explain why I've done so RIGHT NOW!!

I've been planning on releasing it as a full game containing all five levels since I began, but now I'm reconsidering that, and wondering whether it might be a good idea to release each level SEPARATELY, as its own game... Now, before you immediately think that this is a stupid idea because of misunderstanding or something, I'll explain my reasoning for this.

Most Flash Games are very short. One level of Raider 2 would likely occupy the average player for more time than most other Flash Games would, so length isn't too big of an issue. Also, there are games like Fancy Pants which are released one level at a time, and they seem to do fine...

The levels of Raider 2 are HARD, and a whole series of them in one game might be too much for people to endure so the game would fall into obscurity, perhaps? If they're released one-by-one, people would feel that they have more time to practice and finish each individual level, maybe...

The version that you've played - if you played it, that is - had no plot at all; you just went through various levels with no real aim. However, I wrote out the story in detail earlier today, and this story would progress further with each chapter, coming to a climax in the last one. It'd be less, uh, forgettable, perhaps, if people were left to wait for each chapter to come out before being able to find out what happens next...

MONEY is the biggest factor. I haven't released a game officially in a long time, and I'd really like to get some money from a sponsorship as soon as possible... If I release Raider 2 as a full game with all five levels, they'd give me a single payment and that'd be that. If I release the chapters separately, however, they'd give me probably FIVE payments, and it could well be that I'd even earn *five times as much*... since even with the full game, they'd assume that players would usually only play the first level anyway.

If I released the game in level form like this, then I could likely get out one per week for five weeks until the full game is out... Each level would have a boss on the end of it and story sections at the beginning and end, as well as a special 'rank' feature, which would give you a letter rank - F, E, D, C, B, A or S - depending on how quickly you finished the level, how many times you died, etc. This'd give each level replay value, perhaps...

So, uh, what are your opinions on this? Don't care? Object out of ignorance? Hmm...

I'll try to make the boss of level 1 tomorrow and I'll also contact some sponsors and see what they have to say about the idea, just in case they tell me that it's unwise and advise me to finish the game before they'll pay anything at all...

I say if you need the money then go for it, and the idea for ranks for each level sounds fun.

You definitely need to do this, but don't name something Raider 2 when you haven't even released Raider 1.

but fancy pants' physics system alone satisfies the players, not necessarily the storyline. although, the fancy pants #2 was fairly long.
don't just divide raider 2 into each lvl, maybe just do raider 2 1 and raider 2 2 or some sort so you distribute the lvls equally into each one or two parts. actually, nah, do whatever you want

i dunno dude... i can understand why you want to release it in chapters... but at the same time that would make the game *feel* like a flash game... i rlly dont play anyother flash games other then yours because they feel more like oldschool snes/nes rpgs/platformers... and i rlly like that i do play some modern games but i still play pull out my ancient snes and play on it... oh well do what u need to do ill play it eitherway i guess

oh, i almost forgot, it's a good idea to release each part every month or week, since kongregate pays "the best new game of the week/month" a really nice bonus

it's a good since you get more profit this game, and for us is ALMOST the same thing, but you could make it a little bit exciting by adding a plus by getting an S rank. Like a survival mode that you have 0 lives and enemies spawn constantly on a platform or so... or a platform wich constantly spawn spikes at diferents spots and times... or something else, so each level has a purpose to get the S rank

hi :D
