Category: Weekly Updates
This time, I'm not just writing this for the sake of it and then trying to think of what I can say after I start; I've actually had things in mind that I can write here for the last few days! Now let's see if I can remember what they were...
Firstly, I'll mention what I've been doing with my time. I've been working on CARDECK, this new card-based RPG thing. And I've actually been having FUN working on it! I thought it would be tedious because I was starting another new engine, but apparently doing the new engine was great because it was based on concepts I'd already done many times before, so I was able to make things delightfully quickly.
In fact, most of the game is DONE now; it just needs card art, music, areas... basically *content*, but the mechanics all work. Well, mostly. Except for AI; the opponent in duels can act, but is like a blind moron, casting cure spells on you and attacking monsters with elements that they'd absorb, etc...
I was going to release an open alpha version of sorts here to show you all what I've been doing and see if you like it enough, but I think I'll delay for a few days to sort out some things like the AI. Otherwise I can imagine people complaining that the game is no fun because there's not really any challenge in it... or something.
Apparently working on the game put me in a really motivated mood though, and I was even able to finish two new pieces of music (which I uploaded to the Music section for those who didn't hear them), and a digital painting, which is amazing since it's been like MONTHS now since I've done either of those things. I've wanted to, but I've lacked the motivation.
It feels like now, I've finally got out of a several-months-long slump, and I hope that's the case. At last. Though maybe I've said that before... hmm.
(I think also though that this time, moving my computer from one location to another has made me feel a whole lot better! Just because it's a change from the usual or something, and also I'm right in front of a window now which just makes everything feel so much BRIGHTER in general...
So, uh, remember, childrens! If you ever feel down in the dumps, just move your computer to a completely new place! Like the roof! Or the middle of the floor! Or the kitchen sink! Or whatever!)
Anyway, with this newfound motivation, I want to actually do something that, uh, I don't know how people will feel about!
I want to completely restart Beast Signer from scratch.
There was a thread a while ago going over suggestions for new mechanics, etc, particularly for battles, and I've been wanting to start on that since that thread got active.
I've already got a version of a new Beast Signer engine that I started ages ago, but I didn't get very far on it and now returning to it seems unappealing... I think the mere idea of restarting the engine motivates me to work on the game.
I should finish MARDEK 3 though, so I may try to work on that alongside CARDECK... I probably could still finish it before September; I have a schedule that I've mentioned before, with tasks assigned for each day, and there's a huge empty GAP this month which could be filled with anything and I'd still be on time. Sort of.
(Hmm... Maybe I should assign different projects to different days... That might work! MARDEK on Mondays and Thursdays, CARDECK on Tuesdays and Fridays, something else on Wednesdays?)
Also, something that I want to do is make something that would involve people in this site more...
I've been considering doing something with the Figimon, and making it more like MyBrute instead of a Tamagotchi/Digimon. I mentioned the idea with Dragons that I wanted to do as a MyBrute-like thing before, and maybe I'd go with that, but I'm unsure.
Instead, I could just make the Figimon have forms and such, but it wouldn't need feeding, and instead its forms would be based on, uh... what it battles...? I don't know. Battles would be one-on-one against other players, but controlled rather than random, and, uh... Oh, I'm probably too vague in my ideas here to really talk about it. Maybe I should start planning that sort of thing on Wednesdays.
Is there anything that you would want to see from this site that would make you visit more often though (other than my full games)? Suggestions are welcome!
Finally, Raider 2... It's not got very good sponsorship offers at the moment and I don't know if it will get any better ones. It seems like sort of a lost cause to me at the moment, because I've read a few articles about what to do and what NOT to do in Flash games, and it seems I did a LOT of things that should not be done in Raider... o_O
And now there'll be five episodes of a not-brilliant game? Hmm... I probably could still get SOME money from them even though they're not the best games in the world though.
I may try, uh, 'aggressively' contacting sponsors one last time to see if I can get any better offers, but if I've not got any by the end of next week, I'll just go for the highest at the time and release it then.
So yes! Isn't this all so very exciting?!/1
