Pseudolonewolf`s Avatar On Merchandise... Wed 26th Aug 2009 12:23am

Category: Business

Something people keep repeatedly suggesting about the merchandise idea is something like figurines or 'plushies' or something like that... but I've been finding this annoying because it seems that people do not think before suggesting it.
But I think I realise now that it's not that people 'don't think', as such, but because people in general do not realise that *products do not simply appear out of thin air*.

I've noticed this a lot about people in general... Seems many people just assume that everything you can buy just... appears somehow, without anyone actually having to MAKE it or anything. Curtains, bedcovers, chairs, etc, don't require skilled specialists to make them, no; they just appear like magic or exist in infinite supply in shops like how it works in games...

With physical objects, you need to consider how they might be made. Though I know it's not exactly common knowledge, it seems easy to imagine that T-shirts are easy to make because all they require is a T-shirt making machine, which produces plain, generic shirts which can be then customised merely by printing an image onto them... Basically, hundreds of different people can sell the same physical product with relatively minor customisation.
Something like *customised figurines*, on the other hand, would need to be specifically and individually designed by a talented sculptor, and somehow mass-produced; no single 'base figurine' could exist that people could easily customise.
Whenever people make and sell things like plushies, it's usually a risky job and requires the work of someone skilled in that particular line of work... So it isn't an option for me.

Also, things like shirts can be made on-demand, sort of; the T-shirt making machine makes shirts for so many people that it's trivial to just change the variables regarding what's printed on to them; you could make a shirt with a click of a button, basically.
But with items that can only be for one purpose, the seller first needs to order a supply of them to be made *in bulk*, so I'd probably have to buy like, say, 1000 of them and just hope that they all sell, whereas with shirts I don't need to pay anything at all until someone buys one.

Anyway, uh, even though I've explained this in other comments, I just feel I should mention it clearly like this so then people don't keep suggesting it because they don't read the other comments or, uh, realise that things don't just appear by magic.

Psuedo, make sure to put your web address on the back of the shirts you make (with the little fighunter symbol above it). It would be really good advertising that you are actually getting profit for. I want a YALORT shirt, and how about one with the dialog from the NPC (who's name escapes me) in the cave that opens a tunnel for you.

Pseudolonewolf definitely has a point, custom made figurines require artisans, or professionals, or specialized machinery to make them. Those would cost much more than generic clothes like T-shirts or jackets with unique logos.

you idiot, omfg dude only t shirts are made in that manner, but figurines and others require people(most likely the creator) to design it and stamps maybe cause you could print it out but im not sure they really have companies that do that. As i said on my post before on the other thing, t shirts are the most likely option, but others would be possible but hard to get. I totally agree with Red_robin in saying that stick with t-shirts and try to find a shop that will do something like other stuff, but only if you really are successful with this t-shirt thing

Um Pseudo...You don't know that you can find places that will make your own T-shirt design, custom resealable figurines, and keychain stamps, do you.

Most common merchandise have little businesses that do this stuff for you. As for a price, I dono, something you gotta do on your own I suppose.

I believe the point that Pseudo is making is that he doesn't to spend a large amount of money on producing merchandise. Probably because he doesn't have that much money to spare to sell to the number of potential buyers on his site. The T shirts are cheap, and affordable on a average salary. I don't believe that Pseudo is trying to make a large sum of money through these merchandise. I'm thinking he just wants to havea few extra dollars to help support his lifestyle and pay for some extra things that he may want to do. Custom made figurines can cost anywhere from $2.00 per figurine and up, meaning even at the lowest price Psuedo would have to spend $100 for only 50 people. Yes he may make more profit buy selling something like that, however I'm sure he hasn't got the kind of money to mass produce a large amount of figurines. I guess what I'm saying is you have to remember that pseudo isn't trying to make this into some huge money making scheme, just a small way of bringing in extra income to support him, and this site.
