Pseudolonewolf`s Avatar Revised Release Date Thu 30th Oct 2008 5:47pm

Category: MARDEK

As expected, the previously announced release date was unrealistic. I THOUGHT I'd be able to do things in one day which would likely take about three, as I've found just from trying to do the first thing on my To Do List in a day and taking three times as long...

I've revised the To Do List/Schedule thing, assigning somewhat more reasonable times to each task, and the finishing date is now around the 27th of November. It's very possible that I could finish things earlier than I expect, but I'd say that it's most likely that the game won't be out until December.

Christmas DOES seem very possible to release by, though!

I've had a lot of new ideas for features that I was to add, which is one of the main reasons I've extended the release date like this. These new features will hopefully remove monotony from the gameplay... and cause me to receive all sorts of stupid comments, probably, because some people just cannot work out the simplest of puzzles (the Catacombs signpost comes to mind)...

I intend to write a progress report every few days, partly to inform people of what I'm doing and what I've done so then you're not just completely in the dark, but also to motivate myself, in a way...

Anyway, uh... This is why I usually don't announce release dates, I suppose; they're subject to massive changes!

But when you have ideas to ad that don't fit in but you just HAVE to make , I see two options:
- Either, you ad it as an almost insignificant way, the bandit cave comes to mind (even though that was almost important)
- Or you ad it in an other game, maybe M4 or something.

Why is it recomanded not to load your " loaded" save from the previous game?

It is interesting to play games that I have made, because they're tailored to my tastes specifically, but I also know exactly what happens in them... It's best to play them months after making them, after I've 'forgotten' various minor details and things (like, I know events, but not the specific wording I used in each bit of dialogue), but even then, I look back and think about how inferior the game was compared to what I do now... Like with Deliverance. I can't even PLAY that anymore because it's so... *obsolete* to me now.
I often wonder why I bother making games... I mean, I don't get the full amount of excitement out of them since I know the ending before I begin, and it's the story, with all its twists and surprises, that appeal to me most in RPGs...
I suppose I just like creating more than playing though.
I suppose I get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from seeing things that used to just be ideas in my head becoming fully playable game things...

Sponsors, uh... When a Flash game developer makes a game, he contacts various sites who offer sponsorships, and ask them how much they'd be willing to pay to sponsor his game. How they decide on their offer is known only to them, but it's largely based on how successful they expect the game to become. If the game looks popular, they'll pay a lot because they expect to get a lot out of it. If the game looks like it'd be ignored because it's crappy, then they might not give an offer at all.
The sponsor is the one who distributes the game to other sites, not me, and they do it to get as many people as they can clicking the in-game link to their site. It's good for them. All copies of the game released anywhere MUST contain the sponsor's logo for obvious reasons though. If I were to release a version openly before getting it sponsored, they'd likely offer far, far less than they would had I contacted them before release, because of the hits they'd 'missed' before their logo was in the game.
I actually released SMECOF before I knew about sponsors, and ArmorGames contacted me AFTER the release and offered to pay me to add their logo, but said they'd have paid like four or five times as much had I contacted them before release. (I didn't though because I didn't know what sponsors WERE...)

I don't know what 'Assembler' is. I think it's a low, low level programming language or something, but I would never use it nor have I ever mentioned it.

I am trying to make MARDEK 2 saves compatible with MARDEK 3, though only end-of-game files will be valid.
It is recommedned that you restart anyway though.

When I was a child, I preferred to draw 'levels' for platformers in MSPaint (the only program I ever used on computers back then; I could only use it for like an hour a week though) and on paper than to play games, though this could also be because I never actually had any games to play (we were poor) and had to make my own, sort of.
Since then, I've always preferred games with Level/Map Editors, I've gone out of my way to learn programming, search for tools to make games, etc... It's strange that I never came across RPG Maker...
But I've always wanted to make games, and not just because I liked to play them. Because I like to MAKE them...
(I come across a lot of people who want to be game developers just because they like PLAYING games, but they couldn't care less about map editors in games, etc...)

My 'approach' to MARDEK is probably something that I can't be bothered talking about at length; the answer isn't simple.
The number of hours a day I work on any games though depends entirely on my mood and motivation. Sometimes I work on a game from as soon as I get up all day until I go to bed, other days I procrastinate all day and get nothing done.

Lacking motivation is frustrating. BUGS are especially frustrating, mostly when I can't figure out what's causing them and spend hours trying to fix something trivial (this hasn't happened much in recent years though, and happened more when I was less experienced).
Trying to do something but just being unable to for motivational or emotional reasons is frustrating... Like now, where I need to make several tilesets, but I just open Photoshop and STARE at it for a while then start procrastinating all day... Oh, and when I can't compose music! Agh! Sometimes the ideas just don't come at all. Other days I can compose multiple pieces in a few hours.

I had some ideas a few days ago that I just MUST add to MARDEK 3, though they'll increase production time and effort a lot. I had another idea last night that caused me to get out of bed and write it down in one of my many notepads that I have full of game notes, but I'm unsure whether to add it or not since it's basically a massive portion added to the beginning of chapter 3 that could be unnecessary and disruptive to the flow of things... Hmm.
I have to abandon a lot of ideas just because I cannot make them, either because of lack of skill, technology limitations, time, or, most often, lack of motivation...

Anyway, this interview is done now. Yay.

If I had a company(or site) I would sponsor you. If I had money to spare and a way to pay over the internet, I would donate. Alas, I have neither.

I don't mind, as long as you make it as good as all the others, I don't care if I have to wait. Having it out by Christmas (or for Christmas) would be really cool, and I'd probably end up spending all my school holidays playing it...
For me, the catacombs was pretty easy, as I am constantly checking my map for treasure anyway.
I love your games, keep on going!

Perhaps you should set dead lines for certin (Blah! Can't spell for jack) parts of your games and try not to predict too far into the future... Anywho, I have a few questions:

How old do you need to be to have a paypal?

Is the Beast Signer Desin Contest still open? (I have some ideas for the contrast family)

And if it is still open, I can't seem to find how to submit my art. Do I need to upload it to photobucket of somthing?
