As many of you surely noticed, the site was down for the last few days... sort of. Or rather, the index page wouldn't load. I don't know for certain what caused it, but it was probably some idiot hacker; all that matters is that it's fixed now.

I've got a backup of the index page on my home computer, but not on this laptop, so I've had to use an old version as a replacement.
If someone has a backup for whatever reason of the index page of this site, upload it as plain text somewhere and link me to it, and I can use it to make some superficial fixes, at least. But I'll probably use this is a good excuse to redo the layout of the site or something when I get back home.

I'd do stuff now, but the internet connection I'm using at the moment is slower than dial-up speed... How irritating!

i am not sure if anyone else noticed this, but on the top left where it says "latest news" the latest news is still registered as "I'm watching you..." i don't know if that will be a problem, or if it is just a result of using someone else's file, but i just thought i should point it out.

Well uh... you might know of it already, but I don't know if you do, so I'm going to go ahead and comment about it again. Alberto is back with a vengeance [surprise, surprise] with a new account called '<a href=http://www.fighunter.com/?page=forum2/memberstats&member=5456>rs222</a>'. That's not all, there's a NEW spammer [of course, I was able to learn so by checking his IP address, and it was not at all similar to that of Alberto]. Our new spammer currently has 8 accounts. You can either view the list <a href=http://www.fighunter.com/?page=forum2/similar_ip&fragment=NzIuMjExLjE2MC45Ng==>here</a> or look at the individual accounts at the end of this comment.

Of course, I do think they all deserve to be banned. However, I question here the effectiveness of banning them. People like them simply REFUSE to get it and create a new account right after their current one has been banned. Hence, I propose an alternative solution [which hopefully has not been proposed by anyone else]. It would be more effective [I think] if being banned did not necessarily mean you only saw "GO AWAY." whenever you access the site. I think banned people SHOULD be able to access the site, enter and speak in the shout box, post comments, and even forum posts. The difference between the regular members' accounts and the banned members' accounts, I think, should be that there should be a little button at the upper left corner of banned members' forum posts and comments that ANY member can click to delete that particular comment or post. What would happen here is that effectively, the entire site can act as a moderating force against banned member spamming. Alberto, and any other spammer might be able to post a lot of spam in a hurry, but if ANYONE can delete any post made by a banned member, then the rate at which spam is deleted is effectively exponentially increased.

I think they should still be allowed to click 'like' or 'hate' on members' user pages, but I don't think those clicks should count at all in the computation of members' like percentage. It would only show them there, for formality, that they do like/hate/meh the member, but that particular members' stats should not be affected at all. They can post and comment, and mark members as liked or hated, as I suggested. But their accounts would be not allowed to give out violations, nor should they be allowed to value other members' posts.

It might seem at first that under this scheme, their punishment is not severe enough that they can still be active members to a degree. However, what I am going for here is something that would keep them from making additional accounts. Since they keep coming back for one reason or another, there must be something in this site that they apparently just can't live without. So, I thought it would be a sort of win-win situation if they do get allowed to post and comment, but their posts can be deleted by anyone [this would effectively control spam, hopefully!]. And that they can be allowed to mark members as liked or hated, but their marking of that member won't affect that member's stats at all.

Once again, this scheme isn't exactly helping with your current intention of streamlining the site so it won't crash so often. I don't exactly know how you designed this site, but I think you could simply set banned accounts to a modified state where the effects of that account using particular features such as posting comments and liking/hating other members is different such that the uh... command or action done by the system as soon as that banned member posts or does other actions with his/her account is different from that of regular members. Uhh... I probably said it wrong.

Anyway, I think Savagewolf is/was working on something that would allow members to block other users' speech in the shout box. Do you think you can have some sort of THAT here?

Anyway, here are the individual accounts of the annoying new spammer as I mentioned:

MADNESS!!

Since we are talking about problems not directly related to the hacking incident (or at least CtG was)... Look, Pseudo, THIS IS IMPORTANT, recently the forum had a glitch or something! Whenever you open a thread which has a violation, the part of the post after-violation is not showed. it ceases to exists!!
This is all happened when MyNameisNobody commited the blasphemical act of giving a violation (or two) to my super posts! Such an action could only cause a PARADOX in the site!
Clearly the only solution to this problem is to remove the two violations on my posts!... and then proceed to actually solving the problem.
--
Also, Pseudo, and this is like SUPER IMPORTANT, in the email I sent to you I might have accidentaly included my full name on it. DON'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT IT!! And if you haven't checked the email yet, DON'T DO IT!! I am sure that, being evil and weird like you are, you are eager and temptated to spread it to everyone (because, you know, I am super important, and names of super important people are like... names!!), but if you spread my name I will tell everyone that your name is ERIC!! See, Pseudo, you surely don't want people knowing that, do you? I bet you don't!

I think that if members are banned, they deserve having their posts deletable by anyone. GOOD members are never usually banned. And rarely have banned people ever said anything useful, or intelligent. Usually, banned members are SPAMMERS. They post random nonsense just because they can. SO I do believe it's fair for any member to be able to delete their posts and comments since anything they say is rarely ever useful.

I kind think it defeats the purpose of being banned if they still have all the privileges of normal members, save affecting others' HP. Also, another bad thing about your proposed theory is that having the entire site become a moderating force, is that maybe 2% of the active members would make decent moderators for something like that. Hell, there could be another troll going around deleting all the banned members' posts, even if they were useful.

I feel that having a banned account would be fine if it only let you view the forum, pages, and shoutbox, but not let you post, comment, shout, value, etc... though the current system works well enough. I feel like it's not worth it to have to redesign parts of the site because of a couple trolling youths..

Maybe a 'muted' status would be better than having a banned one..? Which would just not let you post/comment/shout/value/etc for either a specified amount of time, or indefinitely.

On another note, I feel like rs222 isn't really Alberto... he seems so.. smart, suddenly. Eh, whatever. A troll is a troll.

I did mention that my entire purpose of proposing that system is to prevent banned users from creating new accounts. People like Alberto, when they cannot talk or are denied access to talking, are tempted to create new accounts, and it essentially makes the banning USELESS. My proposed system would more effectively keep them from making new accounts than if they were simply disallowed to talk at all.

And uh... being banned from this site IS essentially being set to a muted status. People who are banned can still enter the shout box, but they cannot talk, remember?

I checked the IP. It IS Alberto. It's even an exact match for one of its accounts.

Nah it is possible to have a back up. Just right click the page, save as and you've got a copy of this page on your computer.

Uhm, Pseudo, I don't know if <a href=http://www.fighunter.com/?page=forum2/memberstats&member=5444>this Alberto account</a> is really owned by Alberto, but it seems to be trolling people enough to deserve to be kicked. Among its victims are respected regular members <a href=http://www.fighunter.com/?page=forum2/memberstats&member=117>Chocobo_Fan</a> and <a href=http://www.fighunter.com/?page=forum2/memberstats&member=4833>Eleanor Rigby</a>. I don't know if banning him would work as he seems to have figured out a way to get around that, maybe by asking his real life friends or something. So I thought instead that you could, maybe, nullify the capability of his account to affect peoples' HP computations. Maybe you can do something with his account to make it such that any violations, hate points, or devaluations coming from him won't affect anything in his chosen victim's stats. I know that you think HP isn't really an important thing, but it is causing undue stress on people and is preventing them from being the best members they can be because their motivation to post actively is lessened by the fact that any posts they make would be unfairly devalued.

Not so much irony as, say... Validation? He is proving that what was said about him is true, not doing something unexpected or in direct contradiction with something else he said. Had it been more like 'IM nO idit! Yur MUM thiks Im SMRT!!1!' then it would be ironic, but in this case he is not refuting the point, merely proving it.

On a side note, for some reason everyone in my English class thinks it's funny to call anything and everything 'ironic'... Mostly because my teacher threatened to make them stay after class for using it incorrectly. So they laugh if it's used wrong because that kid stays after class, but they also laugh if it's used right because then the teacher CAN'T make them stay after class... hmm. Calling 'Irony!' merely reminded me of this.
