That's a trick question. If all religions were the same, then there would be no holy wars, true. However, when people all believe the same thing, they all have the same thoughts about it. Without new thoughts, science would be crushed utterly. Those who start unholy wars, who want them to happen, would just find some other way to make 'us' look like a shining example and 'them' be the greatest evil that anyone has ever seen. Think of socialism and communism in the USA. If anyone calls something in the government socialist, then it will not happen, and it will just vanish.

If, on the other hand, everyone had their own unique religion, people would have a very hard time understanding another's beliefs. It would tear everyone apart.

Having a few religions around the world, but understanding each is much better, for there would be less fear of other religions, and as long as all the religions had good values, peace will reign. (On the religious side anyway)
