If anything I think self-ratings can only help people grow with their self-analysis and reflection. Of course, the only way the entire system would work is if everyone actively uses UFELTA - since the self-rater needs feedback to analyze and see if their views of themselves are realistic and in line with the views of community members. For example, if I rated my post as "great!" but only one person said it was "terrible!" then that would encourage some reflection on my part, but not as much as if 6 or 7 people rated it or something.

In any case, I think the self-rating system would work well, if you make it visible only to the user or something, or people that rate the post.

I was also just thinking. Currently I believe you said the UFELTA ratings would be public. Wouldn't it be better to make them public to a user only after they rate the post? That way you avoid influences like "going with the pack" when voting on a post. A user who dislikes a post may be discouraged at rating something poor if 4 other people rated it highly, for example.
