Fig Hunter OnlineOther Games

Screenshots

Fig Hunter Online is a bit of an ambitious project that I've been planning for a while now. I did make an alpha version of sorts a while ago, but I'm going to scrap that and start again with better planning.
Basically, it's not really a single game, but a tool. It will consist of an Editor which you can use to make your own Adventures which will play sort of like MARDEK (that is, pixelated graphics, turn-based battles, RPG features, dialogue, etc). These Adventures would be saved to the server, and they'd become playable from the browser by other people, who could then rate or comment on them.
Designers could give their Adventures genres and difficulty levels, which would allow players to easily find Adventures that they want to play. You'd have the option of designing a protagonist for your Adventures, or allowing the player to create their own (using the same Character Creator tool used to make PCs and NPCs in the Editor). Players' characters could be saved and taken on different adventures, carrying over items and experience between them.
I aim to make the Editor really easy to use, so the learning period would be short. It'd be simple, but powerful. Keep in mind though that it'd be more akin to a Level Editor than a 'Game Maker'.

This game too might require a fee of sorts for premium content, but I could even go ABSOLUTELY MAD and work on an interesting system where designers of Adventures would get a share of the profits made from people playing them... That might be interesting. Let's wait and see how it turns out, but I won't be working on this for a while.

I think I've seen an answer to this somewhere, but I can't remember what the answer was.
What will the battles in this game be like? Will they be simple, like in MARDEK, or (the one I like better) like they are in the pre-alpha now?

I believe that this game will be like the MARDEK playstyle, but there will probably be another game with this playstyle.

I hope he makes games with this style; I like this one, it's a nice "change of pace."

I really shouldn't say this. I will anyway. I've had my eyes on this game since I arrived and, in particular, I've been waching it get lower and lower on your plan. Is it actually going to be made? Or will it just slip off the bottom of the plan and be lost to all?

I have to say I was quite dissapointed in that I was hoping for something a little more like an MMO game where different adventurers, up to 4 in a party, would team up and go on missions, or just go places! However, maybe you could combine that idea with the current idea of making quests! Player created places and quests could be explorable by parties made up of players from around the world!

I am looking forward to this game!

Teaming up with other people from around the world would be interesting, but... Well, since it's about making adventures, you'd want multiple characters to make your adventure work. Maybe when you were making them, you could have an option to include somewhere (a tavern, maybe) where you could meet other people and they'd temporarily join your party, but could leave again if they liked.

From what I understand, FHO is going to be a game. It's something that would have a map editor that people could use to make scenarios, and they could then upload them and people could then play these other scenarios, or adventures or whatever you would like to call them. This would mean that you could play adventures created by other people.

It seems like this is going to be Pseudos largest project, but the most, how you say, bang for your buck. People will be able to make scenarios and play other peoples scenarios for a hypothetically very long time. Basically it would be an endless supply of entertainment, maybe, since it has a lot of user generated content. It would continuously grow... I think...

But yes, I am personally really looking forward to this project because of all the potential it likely has...

Thank you for the Clarification.

I really should stop speculating now, but I don't think I've said enough yet. I probably have actually.
Anyway, I played Deliverance the other day, but I came up with a problem in the character creator thing. Rather than allowing you to pick hair style and hair colour, it just gave you a selection of hair. Will FHO be like this, or will it have the traditional hair style and hair colour thing?
By the way, Deliverance was great, not that it's relevant now.
Also, you say that you won't work on this for a while. I honestly think that you'd enjoy working on it sooner, as it seems you've not done anything like this before, and it would be great for us if it was finished sooner, too.
Please?

Sounds good, now that you've given us some more information on it I have some questions.
Will we be able to make adventures that are potentially longer than MARDEK 3? That is, say 50 hours of gameplay at the least? I think this would probably be a good thing for the premium members to do.

Will we be able to link adventures together, say I have a series of adventures, can I do something in the editor that means people can go straight to my adventures without having to search or anything like that?

Will you integrate Fig Hunter Online with our fig hunter accounts? Will I be able to publish an adventure under the name "Supergnash" and let them find out who I am? Will it have something on my account page (the one we all have at the moment) saying what adventures I've created? Similar to reviews.

I would not recommend that anyone try to make a hugely long Adventure, even if it was possible, because those sorts of grand plans are essentially *always* abandoned before they come anywhere near completion. It's best to focus on doing many relatively short Adventures rather than one humongous one.

Adventures will be linked to your accounts like Reviews are, or like games are linked to developers' accounts on sites like Kongregate. That means you could access all of a person's published Adventures from their profile, and, like with Flash games, you'll be able to use a description box below the Adventure where you'd explain the gist of it and link to any other parts that were connected to it. There may or may not end up being an official 'series link' functionality, though. I don't know. There are loads of details that it's not reasonable to plan out months or years before I actually work on the game.

I suppose that lots of people lose interest very easily in things, I can think of a certain person who does that...
Also, I guess it's a bit pointless of me to ask about the features of a game that probably won't even be worked on for another year or so.
Thank you for the answers anyway and uh.. good luck?

Sounds a bit eccesive to me. I don't anyone would actually be able to keep working on an adventure that long without...dying or something. You'd certainly need a part way through creation save feature (hint hint).
The idea of linking adventures together though seems like a good idea. Then you could have chapters like with MARDEK. Maybe that wouldn't work. Anyway, I doubt Pseudo would mind adding a feature like that! Actually, he probably would. Hehe.

I hope he can implement them, I don't doubt his skill to do it, I just doubt weather or not he will be inclined to do it. He probably will add a save feature for your creations. Otherwise they would have to be pretty short.

Also, I hope that maybe Premium members will be able to put in their own tilesets, just to be awesome. Or something.

People have probably heard enough of me, but if you have, tell me to shut up and I will, unless I come up with a good suggestion. It says in the description that you can create your protagonist. This implies that you cannot create other playable characters. On both Premium and free, you should have the option of creating all of your playable characters (but free should be limited to five or six of them). I hope that this was just a misunderstanding on my part.
I've finished complaining, so now I'm going to say some things that I think should be different in the Premium and free things. Firstly, while characters are fresh in people's minds, I'll mention NPCs. In free, I think that you shold only be able to create VINPCs (very important non-player characters), like ones which you have to fight, or ones which help you out with problems or something. Next - scenery, etc. Free should have access to towns, forests, caves and very basic dungeons (not elemental temples or anything major like that). Premium should give you access to some extra things for the free ones and more advanced dungeon stuff and tiles like darkness, differently coloured torches, etc. and also maybe castles and things like that. I think I contradicted my last comment, but never mind.
To talk about other things, can you come up with some kind of system which allows you to save you adventure, so you can play it whenever you like, but not let just anyone play it. I don't particulaly want just anyone who plays FHO to be able to play and comment on my adventures. Can you come up with some setting which lets you save your advventures privately? Please?

The Adventure Editor would allow you to create conversations and it'd allow you to create NPCs. In conversations, there might be a bit of script that you could use which would make the current speaker join your party; this means that any NPC you make could join the party if you tell them to via script.

When you start making an Adventure, it would be for your eyes only, until you decided to click a 'Publish' button. You'd never *need* to use the Publish button.

I've just read all of my comments again, and thought of something. You say we can create NPCs and make them join your party. Will there be any kind of setting which allows you to fight NPCs, like with the World's Saviours in MARDEK?

Presumably, seeing as you'll be creating your own adventure, this means that you'll be in charge of creating as many of the characters as you want to (please not Premium). I think that the Premium should allow you at access some extra tilesets (like awsome dungeon ones) more monsters and bosses (although the latter should be customizable in both Premium and free), maybe have a limit to the length of free adventures (but keep it to a large limit, bit longer than MARDEK 2), and have extra species that your characters can be (free: humans, reptoids, something else maybe, Premium: all free things, marbe annunaki or aruans or lingons, something interesting), maybe give you some extra skills and reactions (if you're going to make the latter) and perhaps a basic skill creater thing.
I also think that choosing playable people's classes would be a very good thing. Free: warrior, wizard, archer, healer. Premium: all free classes, spell blade, hero, ultimate sorcerer, something else.
