MARDEK RPG: Chapter 2Other Games

Screenshots

This is the revamped version of chapter 2, using chapter 3's engine. The original version was released back in 2007, and it's how a lot of people got to this site.

It's a rather long, in-depth RPG; probably about 4 to 10 hours of play time in total. Mardek has grown up since Chapter 1, and become a 'Royal Guard'... but due to the Annunaki spirit residing in his body, his life is about to get a lot more difficult!

People may think I'm being weird, helping this guy, but it's nice to be nice. Anyway, it's more easier to get the Keyblade than you think. It has a 50% chance of dropping off the Locksmith after battle. So that means half of the time, the Keyblade will fall off. And, I assume that means every second time you play MARDEK RPG Chapter 2, the Keyblade will fall off the Locksmith.

Yes and no. By statistics, there is a 25% chance that you will miss it both times you fight the locksmith if you fight him both times, and there is also a 25% chance that you will get both keyblades. It used to be, in the old version, that it was practically unobtainable. It used to be a 1% drop rate.(In the old version of the game, which was replaced when MARDEK 3 was made.) Apparently some lucky bloke was lucky enough to accidentally land both of them without even trying. >_> That takes a lot of luck, considering there is a 1/10,000 chance of that happening. o_O Myes. That's a low chance.

Anyway, the reason people were upset about this was because this guy is actually most likely simply trolling. Aside from that, he broke the rules by using filler text, and his comment was obviously inane.

Does anyone know if you can get that sword that drops off of Moric when he's in Social Fox's corpse?

Nope. He never drops the Wolfblade. You cannot obtain the Wolfblade in the game. I really wish you could, it's pretty awesome looking and such, but it seems you cannot have it in the game. [LINK]

I do think it may appear again in a later chapter though maybe... I really hope so...

I doubt that Social Fox's Wolfblade survived the crash. If it did, there would be a very high chance of it being weak and brittle. I think Deugan would just stay with his Burial Sword, or get the Starmetal Blade. However, if the Wolfblade DID survive the crash and stayed in good shape, he would give it back to Social Fox's corpse. Unless he becomes selfish and "steals" it from him. But I also doubt that happening, as Social Fox was Deugan's idol. We'll just have to see, I guess. But I ALSO doubt Deugan rejoining Mardek anytime soon, or fighting him either. Hm...

I've played this game twice, and still, can't win !! It is too hard for me. First stuck with the world saviours, then, with the zombie Shaman and now stuck with Moric ! But still, an amazing game with an amazing story ;)

This game is fairly challenging. Against Moric, you should include Vehrn in you party when you fight him. When he summons zombies, kill two of them and leave the last. That way he's less likely to summon more. Also, use Mardek's magic shield, it will protect from Moric's arcane explosion. You can learn magic shield from the lapis lily that Elwyn gives you in Canonia. If you didn't pick it up, go to Canonia and talk to Elwyn there. Also, you've probably figured this out, but Moric is vulnerable to air and light, so use attacks with those elements.

I hope that helps you.

Well, my first thought was Mardek was only a stupid nerd game, and no one would play it. Then I looked at all the good things people posted on it, and I thought
What the-. I tried the first, then the second. my first thing to recommend is to have Emela learn her bubble spell so she can poison people with the earth rod.(poison is very useful)

Also, the lightning rod you get from the Cambrian shops can let you STUN enemies.

If only there were status conditions called "Burn" and "Frozen/Frost", then each Rod would have a status condition that may occur upon hit (of a magical attack.)

I have now finally re-played Chapter 1 & 2 in one sitting spanning over 15 hours in game, taking my time reading and exploring everything (Lvl 18, 100% Encyclopaedia.) The new engine is really enjoyable and the combat is fast-paced, the plot and everything in the game, came back to me as my memory was being invigorated while playing.

I'll be comparing the vague memories I have of my original play-through with the new one and I remember my first time playing I picked Vehrn due to not affording the 1k for Zach, while he is obviously very powerful against Undead with his silver sword and smite skills, you already have a similar weapon/element char in Mardek and you should want a versatile party.

There's also more lines of dialogue with Vehrn while Zach is silent, however he's easily the most powerful damage dealer in the game with Berserk and Crescendo Slash which are both amazing skills, he had the highest performance in my party and I loved watching him hit for 1-2k (Deugan oddly had the least damage dealt.)

The other reason is because he has the highest AGL meaning he and Emela can wipe out every battle in 1-2 turns before anything can even hit you and while I don't know if monsters are tougher in Chapter 3 yet, I think AGL is the most important stat. (I bought 4 Belts of Movement for 20k gold in preparation for Chp 3)

I missed the Arena in my original play through due to not finding the Trilobite II key, which drops from a Zombie in Canonia something the new walkthrough that the creator wrote on Kongregate is generally very helpful on without spoiling much of the plot. You want to mostly skim through it and make sure you don't miss all of the hidden stuff he writes about.

When I did get to the Arena, I expected it to be a place where you could infinitely grind considering how long it takes to get enough AP to master the large amount of passive skills, well it's only 20 straight rounds once then it's over. I didn't find the world saviours to be any difficult at all this time either, in fact I don't know if any of the bosses where tweaked but I was only KO'd 5 times totally.

As for all the new features like being able to skip weak encounters by pressing Z or skipping through dialogues quickly, are all very welcome additions since it means casual players can skip while hardcore gamers can choose to grind if they want. Item storage is very interesting since Chp 3 has twice the plays than 1 & 2 on this site, it serves as kind of a reward for those who invested the time to play through the original chapters again, but I guess it also leaves you kinda overpowered at the beginning instead of a fresh start in Chp 3.

Trying to find something to criticize on in MARDEK is actually difficult because it intentionally follows the retro style of the early 90's RPG's like FF VI (the game that perfected it!) and you can hear the similarities in the soundtracks which has a nice nostalgic feel to it. However having played other more new Flash RPG's, the graphics haven't aged that well and gameplay wise your only real choice lies in equipment and which of the many passive skills to pick and one could say that constantly having to keep pushing X for reactions gets very monotonous the longer you play. Things like it being to dark to navigate the mazes etc, is all helped along with the Map and Menu which updated are really nice and quick enough to navigate through.

I did find that despite setting my storage to unlimited, restarting the browser, turning off particle effects that spells would slow down the battles significantly, I don't remember the old engine having any lag issues at all and that was on an old computer so I'm not sure if it's just the new engine. I'd also point out that the coloured text for the Governance de Magi is very difficult to read (especially Anu's black text) but then the chat log helps with that :)

Overall there's nothing you could really criticise MARDEK for because it's a one of a kind Flash RPG series, it has a retro soundtrack, the most thought out plot of ANY browser game I've played, even random NPC's in the game say things with logic, humour and self-awareness from the creator that yes he's just casually making a game and there's a reality out there.

I can say that I did start to get tired of the battles after the Arena however I'm now thoroughly prepared for Chapter 3, and while it was released almost a year ago, I'm still hoping I'm going in for the RPG ride of my life with tons of content and end-game challenges as Pseudolonewolf wrote it has 40+ hours of gameplay!

I'm excited and this should be good!

I don't really think you're overpowered in the first part of chapter 3. To be honest though, if you get all the skills and all the items and a high level in chapter 3... I don't think you'll be vincible later on... Seriously... you can get way over powered.(I know I am... after grinding for 125 hours... O_O)

I personally find that AGL isn't too valuable, but I think you'll be happy in the game at some point very shortly into it, since you can get a high agility item... very high.

There is one skill you cannot learn in chapter 3 alone though. Vim. You can only get the item that teaches it in chapter 2.(Bonestone.) Also, that's a useful item in the first part of chapter 3 because of the defense and all.(Heads up, you might want to save some robes for the first bit of chapter 3.)

But yes, 40 hours is an understatement! A rather large one!
