MARDEK RPG: Chapter 3Other Games

Screenshots

The third chapter in the story of MARDEK. Mardek is now a Royal Knight, who's sent on various missions for the King. Of course, things aren't that simple... And Rohoph's still alive; the Governance de Magi can't be havin' with that.

Chapter 3 includes oodles more party members, and less linear gameplay. Exciting.
It took forever to make - three years! - because I recoded the engine from scratch, which took a while and many failed attempts, and removed a lot of enthusiasm that I had for the game.

This chapter contains 40+ hours of gameplay, and includes remade versions of the first two chapters.

It would be awesome if there was a way of being able to keep copies of save files in our documents on our hard drives, in case our cookies got deleted - I literally have nightmares about that, as I have an awesome save file that I don't want to lose - it has over 45 hours of gameplay on it!

Anyway, great game to say the very least, I cry myself to sleep every night because MARDEK is so awesome. Hail to YALORT!

Happy gaming!

It's actually possible. The MARDEK save files are located in:
* C:Documents and Settings(username)Application DataMacromediaFlash Player#SharedObjects(random string)chat.kongregate.com (for XP)
* C:Users(username)AppDataRoamingMacromediaFlash Player#SharedObjects(random string)chat.kongregate.com (for Vista and 7)
The MARDEK save files are the files with 'MARDEK' in their name.
(If you play on Fig Hunter instead of Kongregate, then the files are in www.fighunter.com instead of chat.kongregate.com)

Damn... It appears that the slashes automatically get removed, so the locations are:
* C:/Documents and Settings/(username)/Application Data/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/(random string)/chat.kongregate.com (for XP)
* C:/Users/(username)/AppData/Roaming/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects/(random string)/chat.kongregate.com (for Vista and 7)
(Remember to replace the slashes)

Wow, thanks, I have immediately created a backup copy of my save file, so at least, in the unlikely case of deleted files, I have a safety net! ;)

I played this game about some time ago. Actually, a long time ago. I wanted Legion to learn all the moves available for him and get all the upgrades and also, there was the small fact that I hadn't defeated each individual person's contest in the Cambrian Arena. I think it's because I gave back all the fairies too quickly whereas I could've used them for my Arena battles and have given them back later. I also forgot to beat Animus.

The best part about it is, well, the storyline and the dialogues of each character. They really spark up the atmosphere. Less linear gameplay makes it more challenging. You really want to train each individual character but some are more difficult to train, e.g. Mereador or Vehrn. I used Vehrn when I was with Saul and in the Lost Monastery, but not anywhere else.
Other characters, like Gloria or Elwyen are used more.

One this I really, really admired and which touched me was the boss fight with Animus and Karnos.
In most games, the bosses are just of a little higher health but require no planning or strategy or help AT ALL. These bosses were a real challenge and I had to try out a few combinations to understand what worked best before I could defeat them. But even then, it was not as easy.

Well done, Pseudo. It's a real masterpiece. I can't wait to play the other chapters and hope I get to see the final ending of the MARDEK series.
Keep it up.
Cheers
P.S. I can't wait for Miasmon.

I don't know if you still have trouble with each individual person's survival match, but in case you do, here are my advice

. From your post, you seems to have defeated both superbosses, don't hesitate to equip those super-drops on the one you wanted him/her/it to go in the solo match, you can always re-equip them later

.Each match is played against your weakness/strength, sslen'ck(how do I ssssspell hisss name?) will meet a combination of two furious eye and another monster in one of his solo matches, you are likely to be berserked as soon as possible so if you equipped the Drackal Crescent, you will NEVER defeat them, BUT the DC comes with a EARTH element soulstrike, so my best tip is: look through the whole skill tree, it really helps

Yes, well thanks for the post.

I already know how to defeat Karnos and Animus. It is just a matter of seeing what works and a lot of passionate planning.
I did defeat them both too. I had more trouble with Animus because of his Thauma attacks as well as the lack of any Candiathropes to equip on Legion.

The individual survival matches also took a bit of patience, which was rather lacking in me.
I think I had more trouble with Donovan than Sslen'ck. That fairy which gives you Haste is twice what I paid for her, and I only wish I didn't have to return her like the goodie-two-shoes I most certainly am not.
Sigh!
Take Elwyen for example. She met up with so many undead, it was literally a piece of cake to get past her survival tournament. Literally.

Oh, and a piece of advice, so kindly requited for yours.
Try to improve your English. Your posts are well-intentioned and very decent as we all can see. It is your grammar that is giving you a negative impression.
Best of luck, my friend.
Cheers!

I feel like making a small walkthrough for Animus, although that there are some on the wiki, I hope this 'condensed version' will be more easy to read and noticed by other people

DreamShrine
When going through there, make sure you grab all treasures, there are pretty nice items, one of them is the 'Rainbow Disc', which gives you resistance to all elements

The party setup should me Legion, Gloria and Mereador, they are should be at least lvl 35+

Again as the fight with karnos, equip your characters with their best items (this time, try not to equip the cursed combo on mardek, you will need his healing)
P.S. Legion should have a Candriahope equipped

The key to this battle is to lower Animus' SPR to zero, without his spr, his spells with do zero damage, so you must survive the first part of the fight where you uses Legion's Fairy Dust and Gloria's Whirlpool to lower SPR, have Mereador spam Figuices and Repair Legion when not much is left to do, Mardek should NOT put up shields, for Animus has a powerful thauma spell called shield breaker:anhillation, which, true to its name, anhillate you.Even if it doesn't, you get a -10 MDEF, which is a huge nerf, also, watch out for another move called Ion Storm, it inflicts stun with a rather high chance, remember to dispell it

Okay, so after you lowered his SPR to zero (I would suggest to use Speedy Juice Spray plus a whole party Raibow Juice Spray at the beginning,to make the process quicker, also, because Potion Spray counts as an attack, so once you put Rainbow Juice Spray first, it nullify the Speedy Spray) it is time to wall some damage on him, BUT, it doesn't end here, his Soulstorm skills, since they scales with your hp, does damage! Gasp! Who would've known THAT will happen?

It should not be so hard to survive the first two soulstorms, since really, they *never kills you*, unless you are at something around 1hp, the real horror is the Soulstorm Omega, which scales to 120% of your hp, an instant KO, so you will have to equip skills like (resist aether, raibow aura or that sort of thing), if you do not like grinding, you can try a risky method which involves casting a MSHIELD on the party member with lowest aether resistance, so whenever Animus pass a turn using shield breaker (which does 0 damage), or he does Soulstorm, you can survive the attack anyway (since soulstorm scales with hp, MDEF being lowered is really not a big problem

If you have enough ingredints, don't hesitate to craft some Wanderer Garbs from the Xantusian Blacksmith, the fight will go along much easier if you tried it

Not much, really, is happened after you beat Animus, there are only a medal and some items, no plots though, but it sure gives you bragging rights!

Thank you for another walkthrough, darkninjaabc. I appreciate it when others go out of their way to give advice on very difficult situations. ( I've yet to beat karnos, but ah well. Patience IS a virtue.) I also like how you give extra tips to really clarify on what exactly to do. So yes, keep that up!

...well, I think I'll go and confront Karnos today and try to beat the smack out of it, and maybe I'll win this time.

Yes, I like it when people do this too, so I try to do the same. There's a great walkthrough I posted on Dorra's user page that I hope will really help, but since I don't know how to post a link, I don't know how much help I could be, so I'll just post some more tips I have tried myself that work rather well:

1) Karnos starts out as light element, so it is a good idea to keep him that element since he will heal most party members you have with light attacks.
2) Here's a classic strategy that most people use: Give Mardek the cursed blade, cursed beret, scarab of life, and the blood opal. Then every time Mardek attacks, he will damage Karnos and heal to full health. You could also give Mardek the yellow fairy to give yourself haste, but then you'll need a party member who can put up an air null. Then, you don't need to worry so much about anyone else from that point on.
3) Alternatively, you could throw magic drinks at Elwynn until she gets to 100 spirit, while Elwynn plays runic rhapsody to make Karnos do minimal damage to you with magic attacks. Or you could do the reverse, by beserking Karnos or cursing him and then playing Solid Sonata and throwing magic drinks at Elwynn. If you run out of magic drinks, use Solaar's spirit graft to increase Elywynn's spirit.
4) Also, you do have the option of throwing power drinks at Mardek if you are using the cursed blade strategy. Mardek will deal massive damage after a while and almost never die.
5) Try lowering Karnos's attack and health. Then, use blood claw or poison sting and then spectral touch or emerald shock once Karnos is poisoned/bleeding. Karnos will then tale some turns just receiving damage.
6) Hah, here's a good one: Lower Karnos's defense, then use sinstrike repeatedly with Zach. Coup de Grace does little damage, for some reason, along with crescendo slash. However, using non-elemental attacks will prevent Karnos from changing elements.
7) With Legion in danger, it is not a bad idea to use revenge strike on Karnos. The ability is somewhat hard to get, but not too hard with the right party members. I managed to get all abilities with Legion.
8) Lower Karnos's speed until he is only attacking once every few turns, or raise your parties agility with sharla or someone else. Then, cast barkskin on the entire party and put up a sheild on all party members. Karnos will do minimal damage with this strategy.
9) It actually isn't a bad idea to have soul strike equipped with Mardek, as long as you miss the action command. Yes, miss it, so you won't be healing Karnos when he changes to the light element. Then hit the action command when Karnos changes to any element that isn't light. Therefore, you will deal damage from multiple elements with a standard attack (this strategy should be used with the cursed blade strategy).
10) Stock up on items! You can never have enough Phoenix pinions!
11) If you have Mereador in your party with Legion, have the potion spray equipped, and also the poison spray or sleep-o-matic. Keep repairing Legion, and after a long period of time, Legion will have over 100 on health, or some other stat.
12) Karnos attacks primarily with Dark and Light attacks. If he uses rainbow guard, take out only one of the elements and keep attacking with that element. Coup de Grace does surprisingly small damage, but is still useful as it won't make Karnos change elements. Sometimes, Karnos will change to fig or aether elements. Don't worry, Legion can use this to his advantage if he has a cardriathope in his inventory, and since he knows aether attacks, you can get Karnos to change elements rather quickly.
13) If you want, use Mereador's potion spray to spray rainbow juice on the entire party.
14) Here's a CRAZY idea, that I do not suggest at all, but would be fun to try just for the heck of it. Give Zach high light resistance, then cast rainbow juice on the entire party. Then use coup de grace on your own party members to raise Zach's kill count and increase damage with coup de grace. Always leave one party member alive, and throw phoenix downs on those party members who have fallen. Repeat the process until Zach is doing damage over 4000, then attack Karnos! Stupid, and not advised at all, but a fun strategy to do if you get bored.

I hope this little guide helps. Good luck.

Erm...anyone have any tips on how to beat karnos? I tried Darkninjaabc's tactic, and I must say that I came close...but I guess I did something wrong because I lost. The wiki is helpful too, but I'd like to ask if anyone has something that could help me defeat karnos.

Well, I personally think that... and this is going to sound odd but... I think the easiest way to beat Karnos is by solo'ing him.

It's odd, but hear me out. You get Mardek, and you make sure you're able to get the fairies, they're important to this. You return all the fairies, with the exception of the yellow one, and you will get the Scarab of health and some other stuff that is irrelevant. You equip Mardek with the Cursed Blade, the Cursed Beret, a Dark Shield, the Night Jacket, the Scarab of health and the yellow fairy. The Cursed Blade causes auto-curse and auto-bleed, so Mardek'll be bleeding, and he'll be incapable of using skills, but he can still use items and attacks. Since you're already cursed, however, the Cursed Beret has no further negative effects, it gives you 5 DEF and 5 M.DEF as well as auto-shield and auto-M.shield, which cannot be broken. The Night Jacket gives you high resistance to the natural elements and it heals you with dark. You can then add reactions and passive skills to make you resistant to the other elements. The Dark Shield gives you a further resistance to dark element, as well as increasing your attack with the curse blade. YOU DO NOT WANT TO EQUIP SOULSTRIKE! Karnos always has less than 100% resistance to dark, and is therefore vulnerable to it at all times. When he switches to dark, he has a 90% resistance to it, so hopefully he will not switch to it. The yellow fairy gives you auto-haste. This is so that you're up to speed with Karnos, who also has auto-haste. Finally you have the scarab of health. I had used the green fairy, but this is *FAR* better. The scarab of health has regen, which cancels out the bleeding caused by the cursed blade. The scarab also adds 5 VIT, which makes up for the 5 taken away by the cursed blade. The scarab also adds 5 DEF and 5 M.DEF, making you even harder to beat, and it also has resistance to all the status effects.(I'm not sure if Karnos can inflict them or not... It's been a while since I've battled Karnos.) So then the only thing you'll be doing is attacking with the cursed blade. Why the cursed blade though? Well, as I said before, it's dark elemental, and he's always at least slightly weak to it. It has the drain HP ability, so all the damage you do to Karnos will turn into healing for you.(You'll heal yourself of 110& of the damage you deal if you have the Drain HP+10% skill equipped.) So basically you will be less likely to have to heal with potions and such. The biggest thing though that comes from that sword is the P+Bleed 5% reaction, and the fact that it causes curse. Karnos is vulnerable to these status effects. Once Karnos is cursed, he cannot change his element anymore. Hopefully this happens when he isn't dark or fig though. Karnos can bleed too. If you get Karnos bleeding, he losses a lot of HP, making the battle much quicker. Overall, this strategy should work for you, I know it worked for me.(Even with the green fairy, which lacks several features that the scarab of health has.)

So yes! I hope this comes in helpful for you. There are other strategies though, so other ideas can work too.

I'm having trouble with your strategy, it seems that I don't have enough vit, and I'm instantely KOed after being hit by shatter claw, followed with galaxy burst...So, I was wondering what lvl you had mardeck at when you defeated karnos. Mine is currently at lvl 36.

Hmm... I used a similar strategy as david s, but I have several other ideas as well. Please bear with me...
1) I found Karnos easier if you can poison him and make him bleed. The easiest way to make him bleed is blood claw with Legion or by using the cursed blade. Once you do that, stun him with spectral touch, and he will take some turns just receiving damage.
2) I used Vehrn, Solaar, and Legion. Vehrn heals from Animus's light attacks, and if you have emerald shock, use that, which you learn by beating Vehrn's solo in the arena. Solaar is used for healing purposes. Also, in his astral form, he is quite invulnerable to most of Karnos's physical attacks. Legion can put tons of status effects on Karnos, and he doesn't die often.
3) Karnos won't change elements if you use only Mardek to attack with the cursed blade and all that other stuff David mentioned. Try to keep him on the same element to make use of his weakness. Karnos also won't change elements if you use non-elemental attacks. Unfortunately, he is very resistant to non-elemental attacks.
4) Another strategy is to get Zach's kill count really high before you battle Karnos, then use sinstrike repeatedly. Also, if Karnos uses rainbow guard, take down just one of the elements that he will null, and attack with only that element used.
5) Or alternatively, you can craft some power drinks and throw them at Mardek or Vehrn with all party members, and then give Mardek or Vehrn haste.
6) Don't try being stupid and taking out all of Karnos's nulls, just take out one null, as I said earlier.
I don't have much else to help. Good luck.

hmmmmm, you failed with my strat? Well, I was sober with my awesome victory, so my instructions may not be so clear, so (in case) you interested, I can make some points more clear

1. david's solo idea is good too, but I tried with 4p so it would be easier to get the medal which (needs all your allies to reach lvl 30)

2. I may not make it clear enough, but mardek and legion should go solely damage, and gloria tries to barkskin the whole team while null(s) damage

3. It may or may not be useful, but in case you don't know, stepping in the portal in th magic shop in gonzor opens a secret shop in the figrealm, you can buy a candriahope there

4. Karnos sometimes do switch to elements which cannot be damaged by gensplosion(fig), so you can use fairy dust to lower his stats a bit for the time being

P.S : besides being a superboss which gives a medal, nice items and XP, legion can make up most of his missing skills at karnos, this build should give you enough time to learn some best moves legion can use , blood claw, tsunami, earthquake, thunderstorm and raging inferno

The Adventures of Social Fox books can be found in Maraeador's house and in the bedroom in Castle Goznor. I believe that reading one of these books on the book shelves adds social fox to your encyclopedia, though perhaps it takes reading both of them.(The shelf in castle Goznor is in the room your started chapter 2 in.)

I hope this is helpful, and if it still doesn't work, then I'm not sure what the problem is...

personally, I think I am quite the ok guy in Mardek 3, since I defeated both A:Karnos and Animus, and I would like to give tips on defeating these blizzares

I hope this little 'guide' will be more useful than the one on the FigWiki

1: I defeated both of them with the party set up of Legion, Gloria, Mereador and Mardek (if you gonna follow my strat, make sure equip the potion spray on Mereador)

2: Many people think turn order is not fundamental, but it sure can help a lot if you got it right, with this party setup, you should have mardek goes first, then gloria, then mereador, and Legion (In case you wanna know, Mardek could revive a ally and then gloria can null, also, in case Legion falls, mereador can always repair him)

3: You totally have to get your best equipments, that is up to how well you've it planned out, but ALWAYS remember Mardek needs to equip cursed beret and sword and scrab of health, the STEEL STOLE acts a crucial part, which can be forged at Xantusian Blacksmith

4: Now that the battle starts, wall mardek up for some nice damage, then have Gloria NullAir, Make Mereador use a Speedy Spray on everyone, then on Legion's first turn, I suggest throw a gemsplosion at karnos (if you wanna play safe, use a eveningstar from mythrill golems, if you aim for bigger damages, use candriahope) (btw if you cannot even kill a mythrill golem to get a eveningstar, you totally are not ready, at least go grind some more)

5: with haste on, you could keep attacking again, cast morality block (or whatever it is called) on everyone, Gloria heal up the party to cover whatever damage karnos did (in case the party is severely injured, mardek should heal too)

6:You may somethimes fell confused about karnos counter reactions, in this case, he only switches elements when he is hit with a MAGICAL attack, so in case you've got some bad elements (such as fig, aether, or physical to some), wall him with Legion's gemsplosion and gloria's magicks

7:sometimes getting an ally KO'd is not that much of a big problem, because you can always re-stock the effects, but in case karnos got himself a bad element, putting a counter element to it is more important than reviving an ally (with my party setup, mereador get's KO'd most often, but you really don't have the need to revive him too often unless he comes useful)

8:I insist Mereador is the key to this battle, believe me, you won't believe how useful is his repair skills and potion spraying are (I suggest pack with 2 rainbow juices, 4 speedy juices and 2 healthy juices, or some mirrielixer if you want to play safe)

9: Don't be shame to buy items, you totally need them in order to win

10: Lastly, and most important of all, if you lost, it might just be bad luck, this set up is almost a 100% kill, if you don't believe me, sit and determine to beat the crap outta him, then you win!

If you find this guide useful, please reply, I will feel really good knowing people actually read my stuff
