MARDEK RPG: Chapter 3Other Games

Screenshots

The third chapter in the story of MARDEK. Mardek is now a Royal Knight, who's sent on various missions for the King. Of course, things aren't that simple... And Rohoph's still alive; the Governance de Magi can't be havin' with that.

Chapter 3 includes oodles more party members, and less linear gameplay. Exciting.
It took forever to make - three years! - because I recoded the engine from scratch, which took a while and many failed attempts, and removed a lot of enthusiasm that I had for the game.

This chapter contains 40+ hours of gameplay, and includes remade versions of the first two chapters.

i was just thinking whats the point of the guard post? but then after i played this chapter im thinking that underneath it is the ather crystal because if u find the book about the crystal it says that its in the center of the other elemental crystals (at least im sure it does) and the guard post is close to the center of the circle

Actually though, you then have to ask why you couldn't visit it in the original... and that got me thinking about it more and more...

In the new version, you know how you go to a location by using the arrow keys, whereas in the original you used the mouse? Well I thought about it, and as it turns out, if it weren't for the guard post, you couldn't get to the warport!

Think about it: there are 4 arrow keys, up, down, left and right. In Goznor, up takes you to the castle, down takes you to the heroes den, left takes you to Soothwood and right would take you to the Eastern Glens. It seems like Pseudo figured that the walk all the way through the trilobite cave to get the Cambria was a bit tedious though, so he decided to make that a location. That means that Camrbria is the down for Eastern Glens, right goes to Lake Qur... there may be something at some point above it...

Anyway, that puts you in a pickle: How to get to the warport... or does it pickle you? The guard post makes a perfect cross road! You go down from it, and BOOM! Warport.

I'm not certain on this, but it seems like a logical explanation for it. Also, at some point, who knows? Those guards may become relevant...(Sidequest, maybe?)

Or it could be just a random area that is never used, to. Developers sometimes do that in an attempt to make it so that their story lines are less predictable. I'm just tossing this option in just in case. Pseudo seems to have used every location he's put in there, to my knowledge, for at least something, so I really doubt that this is the purpose of the guard post, as it defies his usual pattern, however, as I said, that could actually be the whole point of it.

We wont see unless he gets more chapters made, or decides to answer.

To both you and the religion dude below: If your really curious, and cant get a satisfactory answer, the best option is to PM him directly, just don't be offended if he either never answers, or takes a really long time to do so. If you do not know why I say this, read his profile. :)

Well check the map,it connects warport because when you will go down at goznor you will go at heroes den, when you go east(when there is no guard post)you will end up in eastern glens and south of eastern glens is cambria.

In short Guard Post connects warport.

I didn't notice that someone already said that, but there isn't any book that will say that its the center of crystals.

There are only rumors of guarded by wraiths and such.
The aether crystal replica is only in the center(at the museum)because its the heart of the planet.

I understand that all the gods are in MARDEK are *real*, and that there is good proof to this. I was just wondering if there was a broader term for the entire 'religion' or 'worship.' Take Greek Mythology for example. During modern day it is called 'Greek Mythology.' But I doubt the ancient Greeks called it that. They would have had several different ways of worship, and most likely have given them different names. They would worship Athena, for example, or Ares. They also acknowledged Cronos, without actually worshipping him. So, Iwas wondering if there is a larger way to refer to the worship of YAHLORT, SOLAK, and the other various gods that, most likely, would not be stated in the game. (Including 'deities' that would not be worshipped, like Annihillator.)

I'm guessing that seeing as it was all taken as fact, there wouldn't be an actual word for it. If someone knows otherwise then please say, but I haven't seen any mention of it, and it seems that not a lot of people actually worship them, despite a lot of them "knowing" that they do exist. And of the people who do worship a god, I think none of them actually openly worship more than one.

So while religion is very important, it isn't that important. Or something.

I have recently wondered, 'what is the name of the religion in Mardek?' I mean, there's Yalortism, and the worship of SOLAK, but what is the name of the overall religion? Such as the other, minor deities. Is there an indvidual religion for each deity, or is there one large religion with several smaller branch offs that worship large deities?

It is probably a lot like the old religions where each god is its own religion, but they are of a similar archetype, like, just for instance, take the Greek gods. It is probably something like that. Each god is its own religion, but they are within the same "story" so to speak, meaning, people who worship one, acknowledge the other ones exist as well. Perhaps even hate the opposing one, if their god is in conflict with it.

This would also mean that one individual could actually worship more than one, so perhaps pseudo will have something like that in one of the future characters.

I do not actually know for sure what pseudo had in mind with this, I'm just making a somewhat educated guess based on what I'v seen in Mardek so far, so don't take it as solid fact yet.

(Yes, after roughly 6 months of inactivity, I have spoken again. lol)

unlike real life, mardek actually DID have gods with proof of existance and they even come down to earth (err... BELFAN) sometimes. In mardek, you also collect artifacts that are crafted by specific deities themselves. So ALL OF THE DEITIES MENTIONED IN MARDEK EXIST. But each of them has a cult following, like fans of different music bands. You can like one over the other and worship them, but u cant deny the others existence.

Also, all the deities mentioned in mardek have their own role, their stories do not conflict. So they all exist and do their specific job. The whole collection of gods are not a part of one religion as it is "accepted" that all of them exist, and its just general knowledge, not a religion. Even the scientists in mardek accept the existence of all gods.

who do you use for your party? I usually use Mardek, Elwyen, Vehrn, and then either Gloria or Sharla (Sharla can do amazing damage if you give her all SPR boosting equipment like obelisk spear and sapphire bangles, and Gloria can hit/protect against 4 main elements).

I usually go
Mardek: morality block, healing, attacking Bartholio
Vehrn: Smite Evil on Bernard (morality block cancels out his counter, or just heal him after hit)
Elwyen: great support abilities (I usually used rhunic rhapsody to help against Bernard as he did most damage)

Gloria: Wildfire on Vennie, elemental defense & healing
Sharla: in combination with spirit song, thunderbolt or healing wind

You can use a potion brewed by gloria to ZOMBIFY them!
Make vehrn sick on bernard with smite evil.
Use the zombie potion thing (I forgot the name) on bartholio
Noxious bomb on vennie
Berserker chord on aalia
Keep healing and using potions
And you will easily win.
(I used this and won on the first try)

I've been taking my time passing through this game, exploring and examining everything I can find, and I discovered a way to potentially stumble into an unbreakable loop:

Go into Crimson Peak with a party having at least one member absorbing Fire damage.

If you enter a random battle with at least as many Charred Bones as you have living party members (four usually), there is a possibility that they will each cast Rage Chord on a different party member, ensuring that you will not get another turn to act. Burning Blow will eventually inflict Numbness on all party members, and the combination of Berserk and Numb causes the character's turn to be skipped. Since the only damage that the Charred Bones can do is fire elemental, they will be unable to kill your protected character, and your character will be unable to act - even to Flee. With the high AGL stat of Charred Bones, there is a good likelihood that they will act first, and with no way to resist Berserk at all, and no way to resist Numbness until an endgame item, the only way to avoid this chance is by ensuring that you always have a character in your party with AGL of over 16.

This nearly happened to me: my party was hit with three Rage Chords, Berserking everyone except Mardek, and the fourth Charred Bones Numbed Mardek with a Burning Blow. If I hadn't been able to wipe the enemy party in one shot with a group Heal, the next round would have put a Rage Chord against Mardek and left my party stuck fighting an eternal battle that neither side could win, lose, or exit.

There are other significant infinite battles as well. If you have a party where you armed your characters with light-elemented weapons and you went into the dreamshrine, you could run into a rather annoying fight. Two furious eyes and one Solak Spirit. It doesn't sound hard, but it can be... Furious eyes love to cause Berserk, and unfortunately, the Solak Spirit is overly resistant to light weapons. Sure, it's easy enough to avoid this: Don't equip light weapons in the dreamshrine." The problem is, they tend to be rather strong weapons, and it's hard to get a good, not-light elemented weapon for some of the characters. I had... Legion, Meraeador, Elwyen and Mardek in the party, only Mardek having a light elemented weapon. Mardek and Meraeador were quickly put into berserk.(Meraeador can't do anything in berserk.) Legion at the time wasn't strong enough to do substantial damage. Elwyen was able to kill one of the furious eyes, then she had berserk. Luckily, she had soul-strike, so she killed the other furious eye quickly enough. I'm not sure, but I think legion was incapable of doing damage for some reason. So it came down to "Hope-that-Mardek-misses-and-Elwyen-crit-hits". Every time Mardek hit the Solak Spirit, it was healed. Elwyen wasn't doing much damage. Eventually, Mardek missed once or twice and Elwyen crit-hit the Solak Spirit and finally killed it. Suffice it to say, had Elwyen been using something other than the astral harp, I would still be stuck in battle!(Especially if she was using the silver harp w/o soul strike.)

Still, the battle with the Charred bones would not be entirely impossible. In actuality, numbness wears off after a while, if I'm not mistaken, provided that you have the slightest resistance to it.(There are some items with a bit of resistance.) It takes a long time, mind you, but I believe it wears off, which would allow for attacks once more.(Mind you, you need some resistance for that to work, but I'm pretty sure even the green crystal in chapter 2 has some resistance stuff.)

which is why I always had Elwyen in my party. If you get her to a decent level (I gave her the EXP+20% from I think the Candriathope) and give her a bunch of SPR-boosting equipment she can wipe out almost any undead party in one turn with Requiem. In fact I loved getting attacked by undead parties because of how easy it was for me to destroy them

Actually, I don't think I've run into any undead, really, that she can't defeat in one go. Well... maybe the, what, two bosses she fights? The Bone Dracelon and the Zombie Actor are both more than one hit, but still, requiem deals massive damage. It's amazing to see a group of, once hard Skelizards, reduced to a pile of rubble in mere seconds, without so much as a turn.

Also, if you get her SPR high enough, she can kill even medium monsters in one hit. I mean, I've used her to destroy yellow souls in the dreamshrine, where she's like a miracle. She can take out whole formations, usually. There are few formations she can't take out in one turn.(Ever use Dolorous Dirge on a pixie? Simple way to get pixie dust and tonnes of EXP.) The only problem I ever had with Elwyen, once I got her to a decent level and with good SPR was that I found it made skill grinding tricky... because she kept on killing off all the enemies...(I always reacted to being attacked by using dolorous dirge or requiem, and I always ended up destroying these random encounters. It's a real drag when you're trying to teach Legion a skill from a pixie, and you keep killing them. :P)

You weren't expecting an easy puzzle were you? Because that kind of defeats the point of a puzzle if people can easily solve it without thinking.
And the rules are here: [LINK]
You should have read them before you joined up, or at least soon after.
