PLEASE implement the earn aspect of the "Fig Coins"! It'd be wonderful. Anyhow, even if I were to buy Fig coins directly, I can't just take out my 5 dollars and hand them to the monitor! Oh, woe is me for not having a credit card. =(

Well, in Contra, you also gotta dodge them (the enemies) as well, because, unless you used the Konami code, 3 lives, and BAM, game over. Now that I think about it, you could use the 8 direction shooting mechanic for puzzles and such. Like, there's a switch in the ceiling that can only be "pressed" by shooting up...I dunno, I'm just throwing out ideas.
Anyhow...combos is probably not gonna be included. No worries. I can't imagine it being in a retro game; it seems more suited for more recent games like Devil May Cry or God of War. I'd also suggest quick time events, but again, it may not be approprite for the afformentioned reasons.

Let's see if I can input...
For more platformer controls, I do agree that a slide ala the orginal Megaman games (haven't played the X subseries, sorry) would be a great addition. Same thing for the wall jump. I don't know if this will be suitable, but why don't you ahve Arkus hang onto walls. Play a game of any Super Smash Bros Game or a similar example, try to hang on the cliff, and you'll see what I mean. Well, it IS a retro game, so it may not be approprite.
Now, for combat controls, the short answer is only one word: Contra. If you don't get it, in that game, you can shoot while moving AND shoot in 8 directions. I can understand why the 8 directions wouldn't make it, but is it really that hard to code a moving animation while attacking? Same thing goes for the melee attack. I'd also like combos and such, but that'd probably be asking too much.
