Rating Orb monkeylemur, Lawful Good Paladin – joined 9 years ago Mardek Menu Optimization Suggestions?134.69.XXX.XXX7 years ago
This is a topic purely of simple suggestions that would simplify and optimize the experience of playing Mardek. While playing this game, I've noticed that maybe some parts of the Menu screen were a bit clunky, so I thought if you've done certain other things instead, players would find a better playing experience. Note that these are just suggestions, not really necessary at all, but I think it would definitely make some problems disappear.

1. Item Moving: Like I said in one of the comments in your news notices, since there are quite a bit of items that needs to be moved, I thought it would be very much more efficient and much less annoying if you added a feature that would let you move multiple items at once. I personally found the moving of items to characters to characters was one of the most annoying aspect of the game. Especially since I wanted to try out characters with them having items to support the team as well, I had to spend a lot of time moving several items to one character to another. Perhaps the use of CTRL or SHIFT like in the desktops might be applied here.

2. Save Point: This is a small bit of suggestion that the Save Point menu can be turned off by pressing z instead of having to go to quit and pressing x. I kept finding myself pressing z to exit the save point menu. Especially if you've just talked to it just for healing purposes, the inability for z to cancel out of the save point menu can get a little annoying. (hmmm, I just noticed that z is skip for the save point dialogue as well... I guess if it's too hard to implement this, it won't be necessary)

3. Load Option: Perhaps I missed something, but the game seemed to lack what I consider pretty important in a JRPG influenced game: Load option. Especially if I'm trying to get a specific item from a non-100% item dropping boss, I found it really annoying to refresh the page just to load the game again. I've even attempted just intentionally dying just so I can restart. If the load option was available in the menu screen or the healing crystals, I think that would help a bunch.

4. Volume Control: I generally find myself liking flash games and such that provides a volume control for its effects, background music, etc. I love your compositions, but sometimes I use a headphone that has an annoyingly loud minimum volume. I also love my headphone by the way, so though beggars can't be choosers, I hope to choose them both instead of having to unplug my headphone every time I want to play Mardek.

5. Inventory: I've always found the inventory to be one of the clunkiest part of the menu screen. I think what might really improve inventory menu is the ability to click on the character's box to view their inventory instead of having to press x on inventory and pushing down. Either that or allow the players to move items without the use of the mouse, but I think the former suggestion would be much less annoying.

6. Menu in general: I think it needs to let the players be able to traverse through the menu using the mouse only, instead of requiring both the d-pad, zx, and the mouse. Though if that's too hard, it's not necessary, but the constant moving of my hands from the keyboard to the mouse was one of the most annoying aspect of the game.

7. Plot Items: To put it simply, pressing x and looking through the items can help here. I'm not entirely sure why you made that mouse only.

I'm no flash programmer, so I have no idea how hard it is to implement certain things to the games. That being said, these are just suggestions, not COMPLETELY necessary, but I do feel they will boost the comfortability of playing the game. With that I end my list of suggestions.

If you guys have any other menu suggestions that may improve the experience of playing the game, I suppose you can wish to make more suggestions here.

Any man who respects the complexity of the pokemon engine is a respectful person in my opinion. By the way, you should consult with people who has already made a similar type of flash RPG because I assure you, there has to be at least a hundred who has done the same type of RPG that you are attempting at. They might give you great tips on getting your flash done, especially in terms of coding and such. I would recommend the newgrounds forums since that's where most aspiring flash designers go.

I believe the waterlung mishap is just a simple glitch and nothing more. Although... it is definitely peculiar... the door there obviously exists, and it will lead somewhere, finished or not, as all doors usually do, except for the fake doors in the beast signer base, so what I may guess is that Pseudo might have planned on adding the water temple in this game from the beginning but never got around to finishing it, thus putting that block coding there. If we are lucky, then there should be at least something in there that might make us somewhat happy. So then comes my true intention of this post, can anybody tweak the game a little to bypass the coding? Similar things have been done in the past. however, if you actually think about this, doing this would be useless since there shouldn't be any items or monsters there (common sense, since the last time I checked, I saw all the monsters and got all the items) well... that would make this post worthless. oh dear.

Rating Orb monkeylemur, Lawful Good Paladin – joined 9 years ago Your nicknames: what's your story?134.69.XXX.XXX9 years ago
How on Earth would you describe a name like Monkeylemur, anyways? It's like a fusion between a monkey and a lemur. Obviously, there is a paradox because a lemur is indeed a monkey and a monkey can be a lemur. So, I always joke to my friends that a cross between a monkey and a lemur is monkeylemur, a cross between lemur and a monkey is not lemurmonkey, it's actually lemonkey. A cross between a monkey and a lemur would vary, and a cross between a lemur and a monkey would vary. A monkey and a lemur fused can become yet another lemur and a lemur and a monkey fusion can also become a lemur. However, a monkey and a lemur can become a hybrid monkey and vice versa. Yeah, it's amazingly weird.... i mean, so weird that I didn't even think of it in the first place.... Now to ACTUALLY answer the topic, I chose this name because it sounded "cool" and "funny," as I have said before, I did not even consider the fact that a lemur is a monkey and a monkey can be a lemur. If you were wondering, if you mix a monkey and a lemur, it can also become a monkemur, but such thing as a lemonkey does not exist because there is no such thing as a key made of lemon. Oh wait... umm... I meant that a lemurmonkey does not exist. Uh... right... now I'm just confusing myself so much to the extent where I would stop typing.

Rating Orb monkeylemur, Lawful Good Paladin – joined 9 years ago What kind of music do you listen to?134.69.XXX.XXX9 years ago
Personally, I'm simply nuts for anything that is progressive. I think everybody should try progressive at least once in their lives. I like metal in general, so i do like progressive metal a little better than progressive rock, but mainly, they are all the same. For progressive rock, I really like rush. Try listening to YYZ, Limelight, Time Stands Still, and Spirit of Radio. Also, i should mention, the guitar Gods are mostly progressive, like Steve Vai (who actually does more than just progressive), Joe Satriani, who I really really recommend, and John Petrucci, my all-time favorite guitarist who does more than progressive, too. For progressive metal, I am a huge fan of Dream Theater. I personallly think they are the best band to be ever assembled in one world. John Petrucci is revered as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, as well as that he was invited to G3 9 times or so. John Myung (a korean, i should mention lol) is amongst the greatest bass players of all time. Jordan Rudess is also one of the most famous synth players out there. Mike Portnoy is also a legend, and he probably has one of the most awards as a drummer than most drummers out there, and the singer James Labrie is just there to sing or not sing F#. As anybody can see, they are all masters of their instruments. Their song writing skills are simply legendary also. For instrumental, listen to Dance of Eternity (their most complex song with various time signatures), Erotomania (beautiful instrumental with a neoclassical solo), Overture 1928, and Stream of Consciousness (a John Petrucci heavy with great composition). For non-instrumental, Under a Glass Moon (a largely technical song), Pull me Under (their most famous song), Another Day (written in tribute to Petrucci's father), Hollow Years (listen to the live at the Budokan version), and Panic Attack. For more guitar virtuosos, listen to Joe Satriani, songs recommended are Lights of Heaven, If I Could Fly, Summer Song, Satch Boogie, and Starry Nights. I also like a bit of neo-classical metal. Listen to Yngwie Malmsteen, Arpeggios from Hell, Evil Eyes, and Black Nights, and Jason Becker (the poor guy has the ALG) Serrana, Concerto, Speed Metal Symphony, and Altitudes. For hates, I really do not like modern pop and Korean songs (ironic since i'm a korean myself) for a simple reason, blandness. Whenever they play their songs live, they can never add their own little flavor and personality into their songs. heck, they don't even write their own songs most of the time. Now, for rap, i don't really like how it sounds, but i really like how they do improvisation sometimes. But, they lost my respect when they stopped doing it these days. Also, they really don't do anything special during their live songs either. I hate rock or metal bands that never fully delivers during their live shows. I hate those stupid posers who do nothing but to play 3 chords throughout the whole song and even call it a song, let alone a live show. By the way, this would be the main reason why i like Dream Theater, especially during their live shows because.. ah~ they're so freeking awesome during their live shows. However, i hate studio bands like Dragonforce especially because they can't even play their own songs live. You also never expect them to improvise during their live performance.

Rating Orb monkeylemur, Lawful Good Paladin – joined 9 years ago Mardek 3 Character Ideas! YAY!134.69.XXX.XXX9 years ago
I kinda wish Mardek would gain the power to revive people, but unlike phoenixdown, he can't do ultimate damage to undead monsters (because i suppose that would be way too cheap (not to mention renders characters like vehrn or any light based skills for that matter completely useless).

I'm pretty sure the Iron Man that that one guy was making used to be a popular suggestion as a party member (he could literally be a sort of a tank)

I really really do hope that Moric offers his powers to Deugan!!!! Moric and Rohoph were friends, weren't they? Why not continue the tradition?

now for more character suggestion:

that one bandit guy who gives you the (sorry, haven't played mardek for a while) key to that one underground place, gope or something i think. He could be like that one bandit guy amongst the world saviours, so he would have numerous status infliction moves! We kinda need at least one of those, don't we?

Mardek's dad should only make an appearance when Mardek becomes somewhere near as strong as him (so... Mardek 6? :D)

the idea of (ah... sorry, i really don't remember) that one fictional deity figure that pseudo created should be involved in Mardek 3 to have a base to bring back verhn (because i really like that guy in my party).

Hmm... here's the, at least in my opinion, most radical idea to ever be conceived here (although i personally think pseudo won't like it) which is that we should be able to create a character of our own to be in our party member.

the problem with that is the skill set that our own characters should have, but if psuedo were to add a set of 3 classes with a fixed moveset, then we could simply choose from those 3 classes (preferably, a warrior type, a magician type, and a speedy type) and produce our own stats.

we could choose our weapons of course.

However, i think that's just making everything harder for pseudo.

Rating Orb monkeylemur, Lawful Good Paladin – joined 9 years ago Donovan/Sharla134.69.XXX.XXX9 years ago
Actually, Donovan and Sharla as a party member would be extremely cliche. I would personally recommend having the most unexpected of the characters join the party. The idea of pyromancer/aeromancer is fairly attractive, but we've already got an aeromancer (the mercenary guy) and ... well, pyromancer we don't have anything remotely close to yet... still, I would prefer having the most unexpected characters join. Maybe Pseudo should have that bandit guy who gives you the key as one of the recruits, first, just as a huge surprise, second, as a reward to those who have read the walkthrough before playing or are simply benevolent. I would write more recommendations but I have to go so laugh out loud (I'm not allowed to use chatspeak right?).
