I suppose a variation on that idea might be interesting. As Emerl said, there is no benefit other than bragging rights... however, if a real incentive was included, things would get a bit more interesting....

Points/credits could be earned from all games sort of similar to the xbox gamerscore system. then those credits used to buy extra content or items in games or something. Pseudo could also allow people to purchase credits with real money. Or else if instead of spending these points, access to extra content could be restricted to those with a certain number of points. Pseudo could even include activity on the website as an avenue for collecting points.

I would imagine all that would be technically very challenging though and there's no guarantee of a significant pay-off for all the work. However, It's an interesting concept that he may think about in the future. Now really isn't the time though IMO. There aren't enough games in his catalog and he has too many projects already in the pipeline.

I have three suggestions for modifications to this site.

The first is an email notification of responses, PMs and new progress/blog posts. This would obviously not be favoured by all members and so would need to be an optional feature which could be turned on and off in the "edit stats" section (off by default). I propose this because it is something done by many sites that I frequent and I have come to rely on them to alert me when something new has happened. The popularity of such notifications shows that I am not alone in finding them useful.

The following is a proposed layout for an email notification based on similar emails from other sites:

------------------------
From notes@fighunter.com
Subject: exampleuser1 has replied to your comment

burketo, exampleuser1 has replied to you!

exampleuser1 said: "This is the reply from exampleuser1 to burketo's comment"

------------------------

The second is a commendation system similar but opposite to the violation system. This may be overkill considering the new rating system in operation, but I might as well outline it anyway.

The Violation system is useful in that it gives a fairly precise explanation of what a user has done wrong. A commendation system would give a fairly precise explanation of what a user has done right. I would personally like to be able to give commendations for things such as "Literacy" (Well written), "Intrigue"(Makes a good argument), "Necessity" (Somebody had to say it) and "Consistency" (Always writes good comments). I'm sure other users would have other ideas as well. I think this may help to highlight good commenting and raise the overall standard. But, as I said before, with the new ratings in place it is probably overkill.

The third is simple and has probably been brought up before; Allow people to delete/edit their comments when replying to the blog posts! There could be a clause that it can only be edited for 20 seconds after it is up or it can't be edited if someone has replied to it or something, but do put in SOME mechanism for fixing a mistake. It is a little unfair to place so much emphasis on correct spelling, grammar etc. and then not allow people to correct themselves.

Anyway, anything like this can of course wait until after Mardek 3 is released... Got to keep the priorities straight! :P

I find it amusingly fitting that DavidExVirus provided a perfect example of what you were trying (pretty ineffectively) to explain earlier in this thread.

Now you can just say "if you act like THAT guy you'll get banned" and in that case I fully support you!

Also, do you have a temporary ban system in place? I'm just curious because that might be a way of teaching someone some manners without removing them from the community.

Ok i think I annoyed you and I apologize, I was being tongue-in-cheek as they say.

As to your points I think there may be some confusion...

What i'm suggesting is a simple switch. rename wait to guard and give it a defensive bonus. I don't see how that is as complicated as you make it out. Certainly it doesn't take as much work as a boss or a area does. It requires no animation or anything really except a couple of lines of code.

I haven't been "advocating" hide or jump or special moves at all. every character can wait as it is.

This is much more minor than it's being made out to be....

because it makes more sense to include it. Those situations happen, it's a case of trying to get your team the way you like it, managing experience points, health, skills and things like that. It is used more or less depending on your style of play and how much you like to micromanage your characters. That is just part of the overall complexity of RPG games. the "wait" command is something that has little effect on the difficulty of the game but it's required for you to have control over what happens in your battles, to be able to get each character as much training as you need, if that is how you play RPGs. That mechanism doesn't change with Guard but you get that extra tactical ability that I talked about.

I don't understand why you are so apposed to such an idea. It's a pretty standard part of RPGs and as you said it is partially covered in the "wait" command already. The quicktime blocks are a seprate thing (one that i like about mardek) and have their own merits, infact some of them are magic blocks instead of physical blocks. Also, I don't always hit the block in time, sometimes I forget, sometimes i mis-time it or whatever.

As for wasting pseudos time, i really don't think you should be worried about that. He'll add whatever he thinks is good and useful for his Game. This is a place for suggestions and LeesusFreak made one which I think has good merit. Nobody is making any demands here...

any amount of defence is worthwhile when it's compared to the zero percent of wait. 20% or even 10% still makes it better than nothing. Furthermore, Guard would probably only be effective against physical attacks. The effect is minimal and only even applies in a small number of specific scenarios. It has a negligable effect on the overall difficulty of the game or even the overall mechanics of the battles, it simply gives you a little something if you are skipping a character's move instead of it being a total waste. add to that the fact that you don't get the the quick time block every time. I think you are blowing this a bit out of proportion.

Also, I don't think it's a very big deal to play mardek 2 now. You're entire team is gone now and you won't be using the same equipment for very long so the save game is just a neat little perk for anyone who wants to play the entire series through. I'm certainly going to be clicking "new game" when I fire up M3 for the first time. I won't be going back to play the new versions of M1 and M2 first (although I probably will later on).

However, If you haven't played the other games then you are not going to understand what is going on to the same extent, therefore I would say that people should have played M1 and M2 before M3 comes out.

@DeNovo

"I haven't played MARDEK 2"

Well that sort of devalues your opinion on the game then doesn't it? It's a good game and the save is working again so you should play it.

I still think replacing "wait" with "guard" is a good idea. It's a simple change and it appears to me as something which should have been there from the start.

The benefit would be that you can "quick time" block while in the guard state to get an even better defence to an attack. This is better than "wait" which has no tactical benefit other than what i talked about earlier. in short, the player is sometimes forced to use "wait" where-as "guard" could be a tactical move for a character who is having virtually no effect against a particular foe. better to guard than to attack for 1 hp or something.

Guard would be useful as a replacement for wait.

I often use wait for a couple of reasons such as:

1) I want to a particular character to get the kill for the extra experience points. Mardek in particular always seems to lag behind in my playing style because he's a healer and tends to have all the odd status potions. He rarely gets the kill without me forcing it.

2) I want a character to master a skill so I can equip better equipment that I have in my inventory. It is very annoying when you get a new weapon but the character is at 15/20 on the skill that comes with the old weapon.

3) I don't want to waste mp on a weak enemy.

Anyway, Guard would be much better than wait in my opinion.
