I'd think it was pretty meaningless, and probably not care all that much... Not because I don't care about Pseudo, but...

Think about it this way!

There are approximately (thanks to Google for this information) 6 692 030 200 people on Earth at this precise moment. Probably slightly more.

There are 365 and a quarter days in a year.

Assuming, of course, that births are pretty fairly allocated across every day, that means that 18 321 780 or so people share a birthday at any given time.

And if you take that even FURTHER, 763 407 people should (mathematically speaking; this doesn't account for a fairly wide margin of error) share the same HOUR of birth as you, on the same DAY as you were born.

If births were evenly spead across the entire year, 12 723 people would share the same MINUTE, HOUR and DAY of birth as you.

This isn't a deviation from the thread's topic so much as it was an interesting consideration on the coincidental birthdays- Pseudo and your girlfriend are just two from many who will also share the same day. It's kind of mindboggling to consider just how many people are out there, unwrapping the expected sweater/socks set that their aunty gets them every year, right NOW. Or on your birthday. Any given day.

This has been a public announcement by Varyx.

You've got to be kidding me. You started a public thread asking for help to save in a beta that you shouldn't have access to? David, he shouldn't have to write a rule saying "please don't access the beta versions of games IF YOU DON'T HAVE BETA TESTER STATUS". It should be self-explanatory.

In fact, Avarion's just pointed out that in Pseudo's last update, he wrote this;

""I'm also rather worried and scared about some of the people I've chosen to be testers suddenly betraying my trust and somehow spreading the game around or giving out loads of spoilers or things like that... Or of some people who like to think themselves 'hackers' trying to find the game when they shouldn't, then trying to spread it and so on...
I hope I am just being overly paranoid, but a lot of people have been waiting for this game and some may be impatient, which would mean that I'd end up getting no money for sponsorship if it's released before I can get it sponsored, meaning years of my life would be wasted and I likely wouldn't make any other chapters."

Raider Zero, the best thing you can do at this point is apologise and give Pseudo the username of whomever linked you to the beta in the first place. I suggest you do it as fast as you can. It's really disappointing that people are giving out the link at all, to be honest. Well done, both of you. Good job.

I did not give you a cyan! No, because I highly disapprove of your underhanded ratings whore tactics!

A lot of people seem to post here only to try and "fit in" with the general community; i.e make huge long philosophical posts that show their worth as an INTERESTING INTELLECTUAL INDIVIDUAL. Without naming names, there are several obvious people who tend to be fairly guilty of this. That's okay, because the overall community tends to be biased towards more intelligent discussion anyway.

Getting to the point that I wanted to make- I feel a lot of topics are, uh, controversial or something within this forum. So far the idea of people somehow being offended by things that I write has made me delete a lot of potential topics/posts halfway through writing, because I don't want to make anyone feel isolated or like they don't have the same opportunities I do. I'd also love to ask for advice on some things in my life in the Help section, but the idea of people being merciless jerks about my personal life made me stop that thought in its tracks.

The few people who I'd like to read more posts from usually jump into threads rarely because of the whole "blah, brown orbs decrease your rating! ;-;" thing. Maybe if neutral orbs didn't add OR decrease worth people would feel more encouraged to write, even just to ask questions about the topic.

OH, and before I forget, a lot of long posts are great, but as Dragon said, reading posts that say EXACTLY THE SAME THING over and over four separate times and finish with "Hail Pseudo" are pretty tedious to read. I normally rate posts blue or cyan if the person is clearly interested in what they're writing and has managed not to waffle on. Enthusiasm is great.

I like my birthday week. In recent years, it's fallen on the public holiday long weekend that is also the weekend of a fairly massive mid-year performance with all of my bands, which means I've actually been staying at a hotel in the city (for convenience value) instead of having a "party" at home. I'd recommend doing something like that, if you have a few close friends- grab a hotel room for one or two nights on the weekend and just hang out. It's really nice to get away from your regular life for a little while, and it doesn't have to be about presents and things! It can just be an excuse to see the people you love and spend time with them!

This year's birthday will mark the occasion when I'm finally allowed to get as drunk as I want legally. I guess this is a good thing. Maybe not. It's basically the Final Frontier of adult-hood- I become fiscally responsible for myself as well, damnit. So it's a fairly huge thing, but I don't mind.

Anyway celebrations are fun and present giving is also fun! Celebrate life!

Rating Orb E β Varyx, Chaotic Neutral Wizard – joined 8 years ago What exactly IS morality?124.191.XXX.XXX8 years ago
Morality is, and always will be subjective.

Morality is our personal little compass for our actions that swings to point towards "right" and "wrong" when we perform particular actions. Unfortunately, the compass is calibrated by the people we learn morality from, which is normally our parents, teachers and guardians when we are younger.

What is the difference between good and evil? Opinion. There is no one truth for what is a good action. We accept the stereotype of what is good and bad because we're taught to from a young age by society. Morality is almost like a group conscience rather than an individual's, because very few people will be left alone to develop their conscience entirely without bias. As we grow older, we do make our own moral decisions based on what we observe in the world around us, but they'll always be from that standpoint that we started from.

I like your point about seeing protagonists in books have their alignment changed from another viewpoint, because it reinforces the idea that I stated at the beginning- morality IS and will ALWAYS BE subjective.

Rating Orb E β Varyx, Chaotic Neutral Wizard – joined 8 years ago New violation: Incomprehensibility 124.191.XXX.XXX8 years ago
I think the idea of incomprehensibility is fully covered by Illiteracy, Stupidity and Unworthiness, if you want to push it.

I've never seen any post on any site that was literally too full of polysyllabic words USED IN CORRECT CONTEXT that was uninterpretable. There have been a few that were excessively flowery, but none that actually deserved a violation.

The traditional definition of literacy is considered to be the ability to use language to read, write, listen, and speak. Not just to spell. You say yourself at the very start of this thread that incomprehensibility is a big problem with some of our ILLITERATE members. If they're not literate in the true meaning of the word (which doesn't just include the ability to spell, but as above, the ability to utilise language in a correct manner when writing) then they deserve an Illiteracy violation, rather than an incomprehensibility one.

"Why is this post incomprehensible?" you ask yourself.

"Because the writer doesn't know how to express themselves clearly, concisely or with the correct vocabulary."

"Therefore, the writer is not using English in the correct fashion."

"Therefore, this post deserves an Illiteracy violation."

OR

"Why is this post incomprehensible?" you scream at your monitor in choleric raaaaaage.

'Because it has too many big words in it ;_;"

"I don't know these words. Therefore they are bad, because they are scary."

"I am frightened by new knowledge."

"I deserve a Stupidity violation."

(Okay, maybe the last one was a joke. But really.)

I guess any publicity is good publicity, but honestly, the amount of wasted time having to upload videos/teasers to YT would probably far outweigh the amount of people who actively search for things like that. It will also probably not get him all that many new fans, since people who are looking for his games will most probably come across this website first as well as the many portals that the games themselves are hosted on. Would you care to further elaborate on the YouTube partnership program? I've heard of people making money off it, but don't actually understand the process. It'd also probably make your point a little stronger if you explained exactly what the benefits of the program would be and what kind of application process it would entail.

Posting since it interests me and it's a delightfully silly quiz that purports to take itself seriously while spouting blatantly surface-level psychobabble.

1) I've achieved about the same amount as other people my age. Less socially, more mentally. Not extraordinary at all (except, perhaps, extraordinarily sarcastic.)

2) I'm firmly convinced that some people are not as intelligent as me. However, these people normally have a huge set of social skills that I lack. Therefore they're probably better overall than me.

3) I compete in things I can win, but not without some reserve. I'm a VERY poor loser if it was an unfair fight and I'm not hugely graceful at other times, but only because I don't really ACTIVELY compete with people, since I... dislike aggressive competition? If that makes sense? (You're thinking "No, Varyx, it doesn't, silly girl" but I pshaw at you. Pshaw.)

4) I used to think that I'd do something with my life, but at the moment all I want to do is make people happy in some small but meaningful way. :3 (*Pause for "aww"*)

5) I do understand intuitively how people are feeling/responding to things most of the time, but tend to try and tone responding to it myself down, since the emotional energy needed is really draining and makes me feel stressed.

6) Haha, me a name-dropper? I just asked John Lennon and he totally disagrees. And I'm sure Pseudo would also disagree (We're totally close friends, he, like, talked to me twice in chat!111!!`~~~ **

7) I live in Australia. Enough said. ;-;

8) Not really. My personal goals are all just that; personal. Mostly to do with things that ONLY I can work on anyway, so it'd be very hard to use people for my own advantage.

9) Does "Varyx" count as a category? All the other ones I've been classed into have been tediously predictable, but I guess my strong dislike for pigeonholing people could tend towards this question if one was so inclined.

10) Nope. I do what I'm asked, because I expect other people to.

11) I challenge rules that are outdated, stupid, or unfair. This isn't the same as believing that I'm above rules, is it?

12) I become irritated very easily when people don't do what I wish them to do, but only when I have a) given a GOOD reason for them to do it and backed that reason up and b) they have no reason NOT to do it except for their stubbornness, and they have given no argument against my reasoning for it.

13) No. No no no no no no. I review literature from a "this is great, this is... not so great" viewpoint, as a whole, and I'm not talented enough at ANYTHING to say "they should have done it _____ way, because that's how I would have done it."

14) Most criticisms levelled at me are motivated by the fact that I'm a huge jerk. Who would be jealous of me? D:

15) Anything that isn't total, blatant rejection..... isn't rejection. This seems to be a very silly question.

16) I do admit my mistakes. I try not to make them, obviously (wait, who tries to make mistakes?) but when I do I'll feel bad about them if they hurt anyone or affect anyone negatively without me being able to fix it. Really failing to see how a mild case of Catholic Guilt (TM) is narcissistic.

17) I occasionally explain that people are stupid. These people may be well known, or they may not be, but my criticism is not motivated by jealousy. It's motivated by the fact that said person is stupid.

18) All I will say is this: BAAAAWWWW NOBODY HAS EVER UNDERSTOOD ME IN MY LIFE AND I AM A UNIQUE FLOWER ;____;

19) I'm pretty sure most people do either love or hate me in real life, since I don't act in a "normal" way that's acceptable to most people... however, personality-wise, I really can't say.

20) This is really not a question anyone can answer honestly. Either you sound like a jerk, or you sound like a serf. I think I'm okay at a couple of things, does this make me narcissistic? Really?

Aight, I'm getting kicked off the computer right now. I'll edit this later to respond to SavageWolf's criteria of replying both about YOURSELF and the ABOVE PERSON (As if this post isn't long enough already, right?)

Edit: Eleanor ninja'd me, and I don't know her well enough to respond about her, so I'll leave it at that.

Hey, welcome to Fighunter! It's great that you've been inspired to make a game by Pseudo! :) Maybe, rather than using an element that comes straight from Pseudo's games, you could use one with a similar function- like you suggested, Null or something similar, which sounds interesting.

There's another thread here [LINK] that's AIMED at people like you (I.E those who are planning to make games) that you can use to tell us about how your game is going. Good luck with it :)

Rating Orb E β Varyx, Chaotic Neutral Wizard – joined 8 years ago Reckless Rant on Rating System124.191.XXX.XXX8 years ago
The flaw is not with the rating system, as such (Unlike the OLD system, which rewarded people for writing on.... and on..... and on..... and posting their amateur short stories...... and writing lots of "um..." "errrr" "maybe" ".....so" (without which a CtG post would be merely a shadow of its former self (I just realised I probably do the same thing, but with bracket asides, since I tend to have brackets within brackets within brackets (anyway)))) but rather with the people rating it.

I mark nice comments with a blue! Things like "derp *question that's been asked before* please tel me" get rated with a neutral because they're not offensive, but nor do they actually contribute anything.

If you post a comment in *insert topic here* that's brief people might rate it a neutral on principle (because you can't POSSIBLY have expounded enough!!!111oneeleven) but I've never seen a comment that actually contributed to the discussion, no matter what length it was, being downrated by more than one person (read: idiot) unless it was actively offensive, grammatically.... skewed, or excessively off-topic.

Also, your decisions are hardly irrevocable. You get a month to decide whether giving that post a red for calling your mother fat was a good idea, or you're just being bitter and that it's a valid point within the discussion at hand.

in summary: Ratings system works. People are stupid. Brackets are great, and so is hypocrisy.
