Personality-wise I've already chosen what I felt was the best fit, but when reading over the elements in some in-game book, I felt that all 4 of the natural ones fit me decently. The light, not so much. The dark, even less.

The null elemental spell is usually great for each temple due to all monsters and the guardian using that element. Still, the serpent was an extremely easy fight without any nulls. I didn't even need to bother with water resistance. Gloria's whirlpool and firestorm spells are great at sapping attack strength from their targets, so she's great not only for nulling attacks but making your target unable to deal any damage.

I know the pixies (or fairies or whatever they're called) in the dream realm have rage chord for sure. I heard rogue pixies have it too though.

You can find an Elf Cap in the earth temple as well. Remember to use your Loot Finder skill if you're hunting for these. :P

Yeah if berserk just 100% auto hit regardless of avoid or reduced avoid chance, that would certainly give it some strategic value.

Rouge Pixies teach fairy dust. You can find them in lifewood and the earth temple. Comment lengthened.

But an ability that's a buff on only 1 of 11 characters and a debuff for almost everyone else when it's categorized as a buff just seems kind of like it misses the point, don't you think?

Yeah you're right, in which case I'd suggest a name change as well! Or just some way to make it more worthwhile. Doubling spirit and allowing the character to use a random ability while being berserk would work too. I'm editing that in above.

Excuse the double negative-ish title :P. So based on this game's treatment of buffs (the five fairies, 3 scarabs, potions, SOS skills), berserk seems more like a debuff than a buff. Not only does your character attack a random target, but he must attack and can't take any other actions, and it -must- be a normal attack. Unlike the scarab of protection which is an obvious choice for any character in a tough fight, the scarab of fury must be used with some (read: a lot of) discretion, and the berserk fairy/SOS berserk/Zach's berserk ability go unused entirely later in the game. Hell, people even use Legion's learnable Berserk skill as a debuff against casters and such. It's supposed to be risky, but it should still be a buff, and not a nerf, right? I really think it needs a bit of tweaking to make it more of a buff rather than an unfortunate affliction. Here's my ideas - maybe someone else can think of other alternatives?

Berserk should still give you a turn. If you use an attack or offensive ability, you can't select a target and one will be selected for you. You can't wait or flee with the character either.

Some other ideas that might be hard to implement or would otherwise be unbalancing things would be reducing accuracy of the attacks/skills, preventing defensive skills and/or healing potions from being used. Perhaps a turn timer in place of the reaction bar before the character loses patience and attacks, Similar to Sonny 2's hardest mode with your turn being skipped for taking too long.

And if none of that, at least triple the strength instead of only doubling (a lot of abilities can cause near or over double damage already), and giving the appropriate berserk-using game monsters an appropriate str reduction (there's only a few of these anyway). Another idea might be to allow the character to use an actual random (offensive?) ability along with doubling spirit.

A rating is generally a reflection of a player's experience with a game, so most people who rate games aren't doing so because of the amount of hours that a game took to be developed, but the amount of fun they had with it. Some people are immediately put off by the 'graphics' or by the fact that they think it's a 'final fantasy ripoff'. I think anyone who's given the game a serious chance and rated based on what they really thought about the game instead of some boss that kicked their ass, would be giving it a 4 or 5. 4.29 (currently) is a great rating for a game that doesn't try to captivate its audience in the first few minutes of gameplay. While we all probably consider it to be a 5 game, we should know better than to think that everyone shares our values for what makes a perfect game. After all I'm guessing most of us here were drawn by one of the Mardek games.
