It's a thing where you DECLARE WAR UPON A NATION and if you lose on a completely arbitrary scale that more or less comes down to luck then your nation loses half of its population, and after 5 losses your account is terminated and you have to start all over again because that is exactly what Max Barry wants – your suffering manifested into digital form.

... Just click on the button, mate, and see what it does. NS isn't that serious. You're not going to ruin anything. >:[

>Nation States 2
??? w0t iz dat

Population grows with nation age. Mine is like 7.something billion, since I'm moderately old. I also have lots of money. It's a thing.

I'd be okay with doing it, since it's like 2 minutes per year. I can deal with that. Probably. But I won't be held accountable for whatever sin goes on during that time. Like, say, TURNING YOUR ENTIRE NATION INTO ZOMBIES. BAHAHAHAHA.

By the time you return it'd be all gone, but for that brief moment the land of Savid Dess would have been pranked to the highest degree. It will be fun.

Do you want to be added to the ImpFig now? >:[

Also, like, isn't someone telling you exactly how to use a certain word an attack on your freedom?

(I literally just copied the first however many results from Google into here without looking at them much at all.)
(inb4 google is evil)

So the 'inventors' are still alive. Woohoo. So what. They can continue being 'butthurt' that society has barstardised their beautiful creation. I mean, have they ever seen a form of viral media, be it a parody, satire, a meme, an imitation, a derivative, or whatever that spreads through society faster than the actual subject itself, so replaces the subject in what it 'defines'? 'Cause that's pretty common, to be honest. Look at anything in popular science, for example. Parallel universes, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, dimensionality, relativity, the 'God particle', etc. Means absolutely nothing. But, y'know, outside actual scientific communities, it doesn't matter. Because those in that communities all know what it means, and they don't care about educating others because it's too complex and time-consuming and whatnot. They've got science to do. They can get irritated that some sci-fi thing claims that they have entered an 'alternate dimension', but it doesn't affect them in the end, because society doesn't attribute it to a scientific endeavour any more. It's just jargon. The actual theorists who are exploring higher dimensions can continue their work just the same.

Another example is the entire meaning of the genre of dubstep. It was originally (1980-90s) a fusion of dub, which is effectively a subgenre of reggae, and 2-step, which is another genre similar to garage. Neither of them had bass drops, or screaming, of harsh synth stabs, or much sampling at all. Nothing like what you'd attribute to Skrillex and everything Monstercat releases, which is by far the most popular stuff. And so although music autists (myself included, to an extent) may complain that the 'true' meaning of the genre is lost, it doesn't make a difference. Why? Because there's now new labels to describe the music that originally developed. Within those who appreciate the same music as I, I can use that word because it's understood what is meant. Outside, though, I'll resort to other words.

Am I upset that the word has been barstardised? Not really. The music is still being made, and I can still enjoy it to the same extent as anything else previously. The actual activity has not been affected at all.

Because, ultimately, words are subjective. They may have an objective definition, but we only comprehend them in a subjective manner. Thus, if this MIT person who enjoys trivial challenges for the sake of it wants to talk about picking up a lemon using fifteen lego bricks and a ball of blu-tack, then he has every right to call it a 'hack' to his friends who share the same interests. To me, though, I'd use something else. Probably a 'cool way to pick up a lemon using fifteen lego bricks and a ball of blu-tack'. Because that works for me. He can continue opening boxes with a cactus and a drinking straw and still call it a 'hack'. He can go to other people and say 'here's a cool hack I found for opening boxes'. After explaining what he meant, they'll be able to use that word too. That's great. Maybe one of the reasons why 'computer hacks' became popularised and 'generic hacks' did not was because, surprisingly, those were the ones that were spread.

It's meaningless to complain that your 'word' has been stolen by society. Anyone can make the phonics sounds and end up with the word 'hack'. It's effectively in the public domain. Maybe if he actually made it into a more widespread thing, or got it in a dictionary, then we'd be using his definition rather than the one that everyone understands it by. Instead, though, he writes reminiscing articles about how he and like 3 other people did a thing, and now someone is doing the thing but differently, and that's totally not fair.

Reading back, this was rather roundabout and not well structured, but I can't be bothered to edit so you're stuck with this. :D

Y'know, with that attitude, you may as well be speaking Old English. The one that was formed from an amalgamation of Saxon and Old Norse. Because that society were the first members of this 'English culture', so they have a right to tell what it should mean. You can't use the word 'pathetic'! It means 'with feeling'! Stop language appropriation, you highly problematic privilege-holder. Seriously, your point is meaningless. Even Wikipedia agrees! Turns out words do change meaning over time! You really do learn something new every day.

It was a small act, because it required a grand total of 5 keystrokes.

You'll notice that I never once implied that it had small consequences.

I did notice that there is more than originally shown on the screen, though that was pressing down when at the bottom. I held the key down for a while, and so I don't know whether it cycles, is infinite, or just really big. I wasn't bothered enough to reach the end or record a starting point.

Also, alternating white really isn't a good colour scheme. Where is David to break up the flow for once.

tl;dr, person does things for the sake of the challenge and is upset that his special snowflake word no longer means what he thinks it should mean, especially to people outside his clique
this literally sounds no better than all that rubbish that the weird part of tumblr comes up with

>You're saying it like it was something small that didn't make any huge difference at all.
Am I?

Oh, and in relation to Skullcode, I've worked out that by editing the numbers in the middle I can make other characters highlight, and now know that the first number controls the background colour, and the second the character colour, plus what each colour the numbers correspond to. That's all I'm gonna do, because this sort of puzzle is not my sort of thing. Amazing.

It's also the type of thing that looks like far too much effort for the amount of time I'd have to spend on it. And pen and paper would be necessary, probably. No, I'm not a hacker, in either the original, antiquated sense, or the modern sense. But it was an interesting enough thing, so I'll use that to confuse other people later on. Thanks for that.

This is also my 100th post. Woohoo.

>YALORT should send you to some kind of eternal hell. I mean it.
Mate, I played it first when I was 12. I couldn't cope with a puzzle that required me to think. >:[

>You can't 100% a game when it's been tampered with.
By 'tampering' all I did was actually do the 'tim' command to make the character immortal. Magicka and stamina and whatnot still lowered, but I got fed up of dying and stuff so I turned it on. Didn't actually raise any of the stats 'illegally', but it enabled me to do things without much worry of death. Which is, like, the entire challenge.

>it was still beyond retarded
w0w people are silly when they are 12. Don't tell me you were perfect since birth. >:[

Regarding the hacking thing, I used 'hacking' to mean using things that weren't intended in the game (like automatic level ups). I said it because I assume it can be extrapolated outwards to maps and whatnot. If I knew which switch triggered which gems in the water temple, that was just as good as using a walkthrough, right? I can put a simple series together in my head. If a 'hack' means STEELE, then, no, that's like an entirely new game.

If you're hacking social media or whatever then that's a completely different topic.

I'll admit that I first played MARDEK through ArcadePreHacks. It was really fun, mostly because it was an engaging story and there was lots of cool stuff. The fact that I didn't need to grind at all meant that I never got bored (I don't like grinding). Yet, at some point during Chapter 3, I started getting frustrated. I think it was somewhere around the fire temple. Things just were no longer a challenge. The water temple's puzzle annoyed me enough to just use a walkthrough for it all, and that sort of ruined some of the achievement I felt. So when I finally beat Qualna and whatnot, it wasn't much of an amazing deal. Didn't feel too great. It was inevitable; the entire party was around level 90 or something and even Animus' battle was just me having Gloria make sure that nobody died in one hit. The tournament thingy with the trilobites posed no real danger. Finding dreamstones became nothing more than a drag to unlock more story, even though it was obvious to me exactly what was going on.

So, like, don't hack games. If you want an easy run, play it on easy mode. But hacking just removes the fun. After all, if you wanted to just enjoy a story, why not read a book or watch a film? There's far better plots out there than what the vast majority of games have to offer.

The same thing happened with Skyrim. Alduin's battle was really anticlimatic. Dwemer ruins were tiring. Labyrinthian was not entertaining. I basically became the Stormcloaks' one-man army, deliberately killing my comrades because they got in the way. When I got Dawnstar I was already level 100 in three skills, and forced myself to do a two-handed playthrough with no sneaking because my archery, sneak, and one-handed were already 100. In the end I did as much of an 100% as I could on the base game, with everything done except the recurring quests, but after I had finished exploring and unlocking every single location there was no real reason to play at all. Challenge was gone.

I've learnt my lesson now, and refuse to play on easy mode even if I need it because I can't git gud. Do at least normal mode, since the challenge is high enough that I'll have to stay engaged to play.
